Springman Becomes 7th Bulldog To Commit

Stone Bridge's Trevor Springman put together a solid senior season and received a scholarship offer from William and Mary on Friday. He committed that same day.
ASHBURN, VA - When the 2008 football season began, the Stone Bridge Bulldogs had 4 major college football prospects already committed. Quarterback Patrick Thompson was offered by Wake Forest in the early parts of the season, and he chose to join his brother in Winston Salem next fall. Tailback Daniel Allen ran for 22 touchdowns this season, and JMU became his next landing spot when the Dukes offered the talented senior just a month ago.
That brought the total commitments to 6 for the Bulldogs, the most ever Mickey Thompson has had since taking over the Stone Bridge program in 2000. Well, add another one to that list as senior offensive lineman Trevor Springman has committed to play at William and Mary next fall.
The senior helped the Bulldogs dominate again in this season on offense. Allen found numerous holes behind the 6'4 270lb Springman, and the Bulldogs averaged over 40 points per contest in 2008.
Head Coach Mickey Thompson was especially excited when William and Mary called.
"This one is special for me because I sat down with Trevor and his parents this past year and told them that I believed he was a college football player," Thompson said. "They trusted what I said and he did everything we asked him to do, and it worked out for him."
The bond that Thompson feels with Springman also comes from the fact that the Bulldog head coach is also the primary coach in charge of the offensive line unit.
"Trevor did all of the little things," Thompson said. "He worked hard, played hard, and when a kid like him gets rewarded for that with a scholarship, that's a great thing."
For Springman, the opportunity to play at the next level was all he wanted.
"Coach Thompson told me that even though I hadn't started at Stone Bridge before the season, he felt like I could play at the Division 1AA level," Springman said. "I just trusted what he told me, and I am really excited about the fact that William and Mary offered me."
Right from the start, Springman's top choice was William and Mary, and he explained it had something to do with the feeling he got on Saturday afternoons in Williamsburg.
"When I went down to a game, I just noticed that it was a great atmosphere there on Saturday's," Springman said. "I just knew I wanted to play at a place like that."
The 7th commitment of the recruiting season for Thompson's Bulldogs puts to rest any doubt that the hotbed for major college football players resides at Stone Bridge High School.
In the last 3 years alone, Stone Bridge has sent 11 players to Division 1A and Division 1AA college football.
