High school basketball action got into full swing this week across the Roanoke and New River Valleys. Here is a look at what has happened in the past three days in both girls and boys hoops.

Lady Bobcats Topple Lady Maroon Tide

GALAX, VA - The Lady Bobcats used a strong second and third quarter in rolling to a 61-41 non-district girls' basketball win against the Lady Maroon Tide Wednesday evening.

Leading 29-19 at the half, Radford (2-0) outscored Galax (1-1) 20-8 in the third quarter to pull away for the 61-41 victory.

Maryah Sydnor led Radford with a game-high 27 points and Mary Wiley tossed in 12 points.

Allison White led Galax with 10 points.

Lady Highlanders Cruise By Lady Cougars

COVINGTON, VA - The Lady Highlanders jumped out to an early lead and cruised to an easy 52-38 non-district win over the Lady Cougars Wednesday night.

Glenvar (2-0) led 17-8 after the opening quarter and were never threatened the rest of way in cruising to the 52-38 win.

Jessica Rhodes led Glenvar with 14 points and Chelsea Arthur tossed in 12 points.

Makayla Moore led Covington (0-2) with a game-high 17 points.

Lady Bruins Fall To Lady Warriors

BLACKSBURG, VA - The Lady Bruins opened their season Wednesday night with a 77-50 non-district loss to Oak Hill Academy.

Blacksburg (0-1), who trailed 19-18 after the opening quarter, saw Oak Hill methodically pull away during the next three quarters to claim the 77-50 victory.

Alex Rodgers led Oak Hill with a game-high 24 points, including six 3-pointers.

Mallory Jones and Katy Kipps both posted a double-double for Blacksburg. Jones finished with 23 points and 15 rebounds, while Kipps tallied 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Lady Eagles Sneak Past Lady Golden Eagles

MONETA, VA - In a battle of the Eagles, the Lady Eagles snuck past the Golden Eagles 55-51 in a non-district encounter Wednesday night.

Franklin County (2-0), who trailed 26-25 at the half, slowly pulled away in the second half to claim the thrilling 55-51 win.

Kelly Jackson led Staunton River (0-2) with a game-high 26 points.

Miranda Smith led Franklin County with 17 points, while Boreika Burwell and Shea Smith finished with 15 and 14 points, respectively.

Lady Cavaliers Ride Past Lady Knights

DALEVILLE, VA - In a battle of two Botetourt County teams, the Lady Cavaliers rode away with a lopsided 70-34 non-district win over the Lady Knights.

Lord Botetourt (1-1) raced out to 40-13 halftime lead and never glanced back in claiming the victory.

Cheyenne Falls led James River (0-2) with 11 points.

Grace Blaylock led Lord Botetourt with a game-high 14 points, while MacKenzie Tyree and Jade Lewis added 12 points each.

Radford Dominates Christiansburg

CHRISTIANSBURG, VA - Radford placed three players in double-digit scoring as they dominated Christiansburg for an 82-53 non-district boys basketball win Wednesday evening.

Radford (1-0) jumped out to a 24-14 lead after one and increased its advantage to 40-26 at the half. The Bobcats continued to control the game throughout the second half, as they claimed the victory.

D.J. Palmer led Christiansburg (1-1) with 15 points and Scott Hampton added 10 points.

Allen Dickerson led Radford with a game-high 23 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. Jon Thompson tossed in 22 points, including two 3-pointers and DeAndre Thompson added 10 points.

Auburn Stops Pathway Christian

CHRISTIANSBURG, VA - Justin Reed and Aaron Vest combined for 45 points, but it wasn't enough for Pathway Christian, as Auburn pulled away for the 69-58 non-district win Wednesday night.

The Eagles (2-0) took a 32-23 halftime lead and continued to pull away from Pathway (3-3) in the second half to earn the 69-58 win.

Reed finished with a game-high 24 points and Vest added 21 points for Pathway Christian.

Nathan Vaughn led Auburn with 21 points. Cotey Bently chipped in with 13 points, while Brandon Musick added 12 points.

Cave Spring Tops Wm. Byrd

Cave Spring improved to 2-0 on the young season with a 53-42 non-district boys' basketball win against Wm. Byrd Wednesday night.

Mark Overstreet led the Knights (2-0) with 20 points and Greg Mackey tossed in 10 points.

Bradley Mattox paced the Terriers (1-0) with 16 points.

Lady Buffs Beats Lady Cougars

FLOYD, VA - Taylor Hartman and Brittany Avancini combined for 29 points in helping lead the Lady Buffaloes to a 63-50 non-district girls' basketball win Tuesday night in the Floyd County Tip-Off Tournament.

Floyd County (2-0) raced out to a 19-11 lead after the opening quarter and increased its advantage to 32-28 at the half. The Lady Buffs continued to hold the upper-hand in the second half to claim the victory.

Raiven Patterson paced Pulaski County (0-1) with 17 points.

Taylor Hartman led Floyd County with 17 points and Brittany Avancini added 12 points.

Lady Bees Sting Lady Titans

LYNCHBURG, VA - The Lady Bees outscored the Lady Titans 21-10 in the second quarter to pull aweay for 55-44 non-district girls' basketball win Tuesday night.

Brookville (1-0) held a 34-20 lead at the half and continued to pull away in the second half for the easy win.

Lindsay Divers and Jordan McDonald led Hidden Valley (0-1) with 12 points apiece.

Katie Deacon scored a game-high 17 points to lead Brookville and Lindsay Sharman finished with 11 points.

Lady Terriers Down Lady Knights

ROANOKE, VA - Junior Sammi Webster scored a career-high 29 points in leading the Lady Terriers to a 49-38 non-district girls' basketball win over the Lady Knights Tuesday night.

William Byrd (1-0) raced out to a 12-8 lead after the opening quarter and increased its advantage to 29-22 at the half. The Terriers continued to control the tempo in the second half in claiming the season-opening victory.

Sara Walton led Cave Spring (0-1) with 11 points.

Lady Eagles Trounce Lady Cavaliers

ROCKY MOUNT, VA - The Lady Eagles held the Lady Cavaliers to a single point in the second quarter in running away with a 76-31 non-district girls' basketball win against the Lady Cavaliers.

Leading 18-9 after the opening quarter, Franklin County (1-0) outscored Jefferson Forest (0-1) 15 to 1 in the second quarter to take a commanding 33-10 halftime lead. The Eagles continue to soar throughout the second half in taking the easy 76-31 win.

Miranda Smith led Franklin County with a game-high 19 points. Shea Smith finished with 14 points, 10 assists and eight steals, while Desirae Jamison added 14 points.

Jessi Quarles paced Jefferson Forest with eight points.

Lady Patriots Thrash Lady Bulldogs

MARTINSVILLE, VA - The Lady Patriots took an early lead and never looked back in cruising to an easy 67-28 non-district girls' basketball win over the Lady Bulldogs Tuesday night.

Patrick Henry (2-1) led 20-6 after the opening quarter and continued to dominate the rest of the way.

Sara Williams led Patrick Henry with 16 points.

Lady Rockets Top Lady Mustangs

NEW CASTLE, VA - The Lady Rockets used a strong fourth quarter to hand the Lady Mustangs a 45-34 non-district girls' basketball loss Tuesday night.

With the score knotted at 26-all after three quarters, Craig County (1-0) outscored East Mont (0-2) 19-6 in the final quarter to claim the 45-34 victory.

Alaina Phoenix led East Mont with a game-high 14 points.

Sierra Rock led Craig County with 12 points and Christine Surface tossed in 10 points.

Lady Spartans Beat Lady Cavaliers In OT

SALEM, VA - The Lady Spartans opened their season Tuesday night by claiming a 51-49 overtime win against the Lady Cavaliers Tuesday night in non-district girls action.

Kenzie Poindexter had the hot hand for Salem (1-0) as she scored the winning basket with three seconds left in overtime. She also nailed a 3-pointer with three seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 43-43, thus forcing the overtime period.

Poindexter finished the game with 15 points.

Grace Blaylock led Lord Botetourt with a game-high 31 points, including four 3-pointers.

Lady Blue Demons Down Lady G-Men

BLUEFIELD, VA - The Lady Blue Demons picked up their first win of the young season by downing the Lady G-Men 51-45 in a non-district girls' basketball encounter Tuesday night.

Leading 35-34 after three quarters of play, Christiansburg outscored Graham 16-11 in the final quarter to claim the thrilling 51-45 win.

Morgan Shrader led Christiansburg with a game-high 21 points and Dani Motley finished with 10 points.

Chelsea Gallinger paced Graham (0-1) with 16 points.

Lady Eagles Outlast Lady Maroons

RINER, VA - In a non-district encounter that went down to the wire, the Lady Eagles pulled out a hard-fought 53-50 win against the Lady Maroons Tuesday night.

George Wythe (0-2) took a 17-11 lead after the opening quarter only to see Auburn (1-0) reverse the score in the second quarter to tie the game at 28-28.

It was back and forth in the third stanza, with the Lady Maroons holding a slim 42-41 advantage. The Lady Eagles outscored their guests 12-8 in the final period to claim the win.

Auburn went 23-for-28 from the foul line, including 8-for-10 in the crucial fourth quarter.

Ashley Buckhannon led George Wythe with a game-high 23 points.

Kayla Mitchell led Auburn with 15 points, six rebounds and four assists. Tabby Whitlock contributed 10 points, four rebounds, three steals and two assists, while Chelsie Kenley tossed in 13 points.

Narrows Pounds Rural Retreat

NARROWS, VA - Narrows jumped out to an early lead and cruised to an 83-44 non-district boys' basketball win Tuesday night.

The Green Wave (1-1) led 22-8 after the initial quarter and continued to pull away over the remaining three quarters to claim the easy victory.

Mark martin led Narrows with 16 points, including three 3-pointers. Ben Thompson contributed 10 points, including three 3-pointers.

J.C. Crockett led Rural Retreat (0-1) with a game-high 20 points.

East Mont Thrashes Craig County

ELLISTON, VA - East Mont placed five players in double-digit scoring in claiming a lopsided 97-25 non-district boys' basketball win Tuesday night against Craig County.

The Mustangs (2-0) raced out to a 32-6 lead after the opening quarter and dominated the rest of they way in taking the 97-25 victory.

Henry Hall led East Mont with a game-high 29 points and Shawn Christian added 17 points.

Corey Tenny led Craig County (0-1) with 11 points.

James River Trounces Glenvar

SALEM, VA - James River used a strong second and third quarter in taking a 77-47 non-district boys' basketball win against Glenvar Tuesday night.

The Highlanders (0-1) took a 23-10 lead after the opening quarter only to see the Knights (1-1) outscore the them 67-24 during the final thee quarters to claim the 30-point victory.

Chris Ware and Ethan Humphries led James River with 15 points apiece, while J.T. Sandidge and Patrick Bennett added 13 points each.

Jonathan McGhee led Glenvar with 12 points.

Lord Botetourt Downs Liberty

DALEVILLE, VA - Rick Alderman had a big night in helping lead Lord Botetourt to a 73-53 non-district boys' basketball win over Liberty Tuesday night.

Alderman finished with 29 points.

Patrick Henry Outlasts Martinsville

ROANOKE, VA - Patrick Henry held off a furious fourth quarter rally to claim a 59-53 non-district boys' basketball win against Martinsville Tuesday night.

Trailing 44-27 after three quarters, the Bulldogs (0-1) outscored their hosts 26-15 in the fourth quarter. However, it wasn't enough, as the Patriots (1-0) hung on for the 59-53 win.

Melvin Henderson led Patrick Henry with a game-high 17 points and Terrell Wilson added 11 points.

Demitrius Jones led Martinsville with 12 points.

Pulaski County Topples Abingdon

ABINGDON, VA - Pulaski County held Abingdon to just points in the second quarter in claiming an 84-59 non-district boys' basketball win Tuesday night.

The Cougars (1-0), who led 26-18 after the opening quarter, outscored their hosts 22-7 in the second quarter to take a 48-25 halftime lead. Pulaski County continued to hold the upper-hand throughout the second half in claiming the victory.

W.C Burgess led Pulaski County with 12 points and Tevin Mattox added 11 points.

Franklin County Stops Hidden Valley

ROANOKE, VA - Franklin County spoiled the debut of new Hidden Valley head coach Troy Wells by claiming a hard-fought 74-72 win Tuesday night.

J.T. Edwards recorded a double-double to lead the Eagles (1-0) by scoring a game-high 24 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Chris Tyree added 21 points and Daniel Hutson finished with 11 points, including three 3-pointers.

Ben Boggs led the Titans (0-1) with 21 points and Andrew Morris tallied 18 points.

Lady Bobcats Maul Lady Maroons

RADFORD, VA - The Lady Bobcats jumped out to a 40-23 halftime lead and never looked back in downing the Lady Maroons 78-52 in a non-district girls basketball game played Monday night. It was the season-opener for both teams.

Radford (1-0) continued to have its way inside the paint and outside the arc, as the Bobcats upped its advantage to 65-38 after three quarters of play. The Lady Cats continued to control the game throughout the fourth quarter, as they opened the season with an easy 78-52 win against the Lady Maroons.

Ashley Buchannon led George Wythe (0-1) with game-high 23 points.

Sarah Donnelly paced Radford with a team-high 21 points. Maryah Sydnor and Pip Pattison added 19 and 16 points, respectively.

Lady Highlanders Outlast Lady Knights

BUCHANAN, VA - The Lady Highlanders outscored the Lady Knights 15-4 in the final quarter to turn a two point deficit into a 46-37 non-district girl's basketball win Monday night.

Trailing 33-31 after three quarters, Glenvar (1-0) scored nine of its 15 fourth quarter points from the charity stripe to pull away for 46-37 win season opening win.

Jessi Strom and Jessica Rhodes led Glenvar with 11 points each. Strom also knocked down a pair of 3-pointers.

Cheyenne Falls led James River (0-1) with 10 points.

Lady Green Wave Cruise By Lady Mustangs

NARROWS, VA - The Lady Green Wave held the Lady Mustangs to just two points in the first half, while cruising to an easy 62-22 non-district girls' basketball win Monday evening.

Narrows (1-0) held a 32-2 lead at the half and continued to have its way throughout the second half in posting a 62-22 non-district girls' basketball win Monday night.

Heather Pheonix led East Mont (0-1) with seven points, including a 3-pointer.

Savanna Burton and Cameron Snidow led Narrows with a double-double. Burton tallied 21 points and 10 rebounds, while Snidow finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds.

Lady Pioneers Topple Lady Spartans

MAX MEADOWS, VA - The Lady Pioneers placed three players in double-digit scoring in claiming an easy 78-29 non-district girls' basketball win Monday night against the Lady Spartans.

Fort Chiswell (1-0) outscored Giles (0-1) 34-5 in the first half and never glanced back in claiming a 78-29 non-district girls basketball win Monday evening.

Nancy Thacker and Christina Shockley posted a double-double for Fort Chiswell. Thacker tallied 20 points and 11 steals, while Shockley had 14 points and 12 rebounds. Kendra Vaughan finished with 20 points and eight swipes.

Kelsey Frazier led Giles with 10 points.

Cave Spring Downs Lord Botetourt

DALEVILLE, VA - The Knights jumped out to an early lead and then had to fight off a late Cavalier rally to claim a 63-57 non-district boys' basketball win Monday evening.

Cave Spring (1-0), who led 28-26 at the half, outscored Lord Botetourt (0-1) 18-9 in the third quarter to take a 46-35 lead into the pivotal fourth quarter. The Cavaliers outscored the Knights 22-17 in the final quarter, however, it was not enough, as Cave Spring escaped with a 63-57 non-district boys' win in the season opener for both teams.

Rick Alderman led Lord Botetourt with a game-high 26 points and Hunter Foley added 22 points, including four 3-pointers.

Josh Henderson led Cave Spring with 22 points and Greg Mackey finished with 12 points.

East Mont Pounds Narrows

ELLISTON, VA - The Mustangs used a strong third quarter to pull away from the Green Wave in taking an 81-64 non-district boys' basketball win Monday night.

Leading 37-30 at the half, East Mont (1-0) outscored Narrows (0-1) 26-10 in the third quarter to pull away for a season-opening 81-64 win.

Corey Lowe led Narrows with 13 points, while Adam Morris and Aaron Blankenship finished with 11 points each.

Shawn Christian led East Mont with a game-high 26 points. Henry Hall tossed in 24 points and recorded five steals and five assistsm while Brad Wooten added 17 points.

Dayspring Christian Beats Giles

PEARISBURG, VA - The Lions came out roaring in the second half to turn a three-point halftime deficit into a 67-52 non-district victory against the Spartans in boys' basketball action Monday night.

Trailing 24-21 at the half, Dayspring Christian Academy (4-1) outscored Giles (0-1) 46-28 in the second half to pull away for the 67-52 win.

Jacob Barnard paced Dayspring with a game-high 26 points, including six 3-pointers. Kaleb Knautz finished with 12 points.

Andy Randel led Giles with 11 points and Codey Williams added 10 points.
