HAMPTON ROADS, VA - Cox Hampton Roads will provide the region with the opportunity to watch the 2008 Virginia High School League (VHSL) Football Championships. Produced by Cox 11, the games will be seen by viewers across the state and throughout the Southeastern US through Cox Sports TV.
Coverage of the AAA Championships begins Saturday December 6th at noon with the Division 5 final featuring the Phoebus Phantoms from Hampton taking on the Dinwiddie Generals, from the Central Region.
The broadcast team for the state championship games is headed up by longtime broadcaster John Castleberry, who is back for his second run doing the play by play for the title games. He will be joined by Ray Tate in the booth, who will handle the color commentary for both games. Tate is a former football player for the Richmond Spiders and is a member of the Spiders Athletic Hall of Fame.
Handling the sideline analysis and reporting will be Andy Hayes. Hayes is the owner of the Gameday Radio Network and the state's leading sports multimedia website GamedayMagazine.com, which broadcasts over 300 high school athletic events in the state of Virginia during the school year. Hayes will interview the coaches and special guests, and provide analysis on the sideline during both championship contests.
Live coverage of the Division 5 state championship game begins at 12:00pm from Blacksburg, and the Division 6 state championship game will follow with coverage starting at 4pm.
The 2008 Allstate / VHSL State Football Championships will be seen on a network of channels across the state and through Cox Sports TV in markets in Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, & Texas.

ABOUT JOHN CASTLEBERRY:
For more than 20 years, the sports community up and down east coast of the United States has recognized John Castleberry for his award-winning work in broadcasting.
John has extensive managerial experience, including work as a producer with Mutual Broadcasting System in Washington D.C., coordinating Mutual's Wide Weekend of Sports, College Football Scoreboard and NFL Scoreboard. He's also been a Sports Director at a local television station and the program director at the ESPN affiliated radio station in Norfolk.
John has been named "Local Sportscaster of the Year" three times, and he is a four time finalist for state "Sportscaster of the Year" in Virginia.
From his work as a play-by-play announcer for such entities as Westwood One CBS Radio Sports, Comcast SportsNet, Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia and the Norfolk Tides AAA baseball team, to his 15 years of experience in on-air reporting and production on local television stations WAVY-TV and WTKR-TV, John has distinguished himself with his expertise in electronic media.
Most recently, John has used his local and network experience to produce cutting-edge, top quality videos for corporations and business professionals.
He's made it his goal is to use his media experience on local and regional television networks to distinguish your company through video marketing.
John holds a B.A. in Communications from Virginia Tech and currently lives in Virginia Beach, Virginia with his family.
ABOUT RAY TATE:
Ray Tate was a standout football player and assistant coach for the Richmond Spiders and is a member of the Spiders Athletic Hall of Fame. He was part of the 1968 Tangerine Bowl Team that beat Ohio University and finished the season ranked 18th in the nation.
ABOUT ANDY HAYES:
Andy Hayes is the owner of Gameday Properties, LLC, which is the parent company of the Gameday Radio Network and Gameday Magazine. The Gameday Radio Network broadcasts over 300 high school sporting events on a yearly basis in the state of Virginia and is home to the VHSL state championships in football, basketball, baseball, softball, and lacrosse. Hayes is also the host of "Gameday All Access" which airs on the Gameday Radio Network, and on AM 1200 WAGE every day from 12pm-1pm in Northern Virginia.
In addition to his radio duties, Hayes is also the publisher of Gameday Magazine, a monthly sports publication founded in September of 2003 in Northern Virginia that is still printed monthly today. Hayes played collegiate baseball at Virginia Tech and graduated with a bachelors degree in 2000.
In high school, Hayes was a two-year letterman in football and baseball for Norman High School in Norman, Oklahoma. During Hayes' time as a quarterback and starting first baseman, the Tigers won the 1992 state championship in football with a 12-2 record, and also won the 1995 6A state championship in baseball with a 34-5 record. In a 6-3 win over Midwest City High School in the state championship, Hayes and the Tigers finished their season ranked 16th in the country by the USA Today.
