CHANTILLY, VA -- Westfield celebrated its Homecoming in a big way with a 41-6 win over W.T. Woodson, which was highlighted by 27 first half points, including a 64-yard touchdown run by running back Jordan "Choo-Choo Train" Anderson.
The fireworks all got started on Westfield's first drive of the game, which started on Woodson's 48 yard line. Quarterback Danny Fenyak's 29-yard completion to wide receiver Cole McInturff brought the Bulldogs to Woodson's 19 and the drive culminated in a 7-yard touchdown pass from Fenyak to Zach Sargent. The Bulldogs took a 6-0 lead, unable to convert the extra point.
Woodson followed with a productive drive that started at its 24 but stalled at Westfield's 33 when they couldn't convert on 4th and 2. Westfield took over and marched downfield to the Cavaliers' 8 yard line where they were also unable to convert a 4th and 2.
Finding themselves deep in their own territory on their 12 yard line early in the second quarter, Woodson decided to attempt a fake punt, but to no avail. The result was an incomplete pass, which gave Westfield excellent field position.
It then didn't take long for the Bulldogs to find the endzone as Anderson took a pitch to the right and scampered in for their second score of the game with 9:44 left in the half. Woodson's next drive stalled, resulting in a punt that gave Westfield the ball at their own 36 yard line.
On their first play of the drive, Anderson took a handoff around the right side and ran 64 yards for his second touchdown in just two-minute span. After another unsuccessful Cavaliers' drive, Westfield got the ball back and scored their third touchdown of the second quarter on running back Jay Jackson's 14-yard run, making the score 27-0.
Woodson started their final drive of the first half on their 27. Patiently moving the ball, Cavaliers quarterback Connor Reilly hit receiver Max Waizenegger with a pass to convert a 4th and 1 and Woodson moved to the Westfield 23 yard line. The drive ended when Westfield's Sargent, now playing defensive back, picked off Reilly's pass on 3rd and 9 and returned it to Westfield's 36.
The half would end with the final score being 27-0 in favor of Westfield, yet the Bulldogs wouldn't stop putting points on the scoreboard once play resumed. In the third quarter after McInturff, also now playing defensive back, picked off a Reilly pass at Woodson's 42 yard line. Jordan then took a handoff, hurdled Woodson tacklers and ran 30 yards to the Woodson 12. Fenyak then threw a touchdown pass to McIntuff increasing the Bulldog's lead to 34-0.
It didn't get any better for the Woodson Cavaliers as they lost the ensuing kickoff at their own 21 and it was recovered by the Bulldogs' Les Grant. Running back Dylan Doty scored the Bulldog's final touchdown of the game on a two-yard run to give Westfield a 41-0 lead.
The Cavaliers would get on the board in the 4th quarter after a lengthy, 91-yard drive fueled by a nice mix of running and passing plays. The drive was capped by an eight-yard touchdown run by running back James Johnson. The extra point was missed resulting in the final 41-6 score.
Westfield now moves to 6-0 on the year and must now travel out to face an upstart Fairfax Rebel squad, home of Bulldog head coach Tom Verbanic's previous coaching stint. Woodson moves to 4-2 on the year and will host Madison next week, winners of four straight.
