ASHBURN, VA - When the Broad Run Spartans scheduled homecoming against Dominion this season, many believed the game would not be close. Despite having one of the area's best tailbacks in Deandre Reaves, the Titans were not expected to be capable of hanging with the defending Dulles District champions.

If you were one of those people, then please sign up and pick the games each week with the Gameday crew, because I need some easy wins. Fact is, the Dominion Titans gave Broad Run all they could handle on a hot Saturday afternoon in Ashburn, and it wasn't until late in the 4th quarter that the Spartans pulled away for a 27-6 win.

Broad Run scored first on a Chris Jessop touchdown run from 1 yard out. The Spartans then took an 8-0 lead when holder Will Field found tight end Kevin Sanderson in the end-zone on the conversion attempt.

The Titans answered back in the second quarter when Reaves ran one in from 10 yards out, breaking several Spartan tackles, and diving intot he endzone. Dominion missed the extra point to make the score 8-6 in Broad Run's favor. That is the same score that was on the board when the teams headed into the locker room at the half.

The Spartans and Titans were far from sharp on Saturday on offense. But both defenses played extremely well, thus the reason for the low scoring affair in the first two quarters.

In the 3rd quarter, Broad Run threatened deep inside Dominion territory, but penalties pushed the Spartans back and they had to settle for a Graham Allen field goal from 30 yards out.

The 4th quarter started with the score 11-6 Broad Run, but then the Spartans began to pull away. Allen hit another field goal to make the score 14-6. Broad Run's Kenny McAdow then scored from 1 yard out to make the score 21-6.

Before the game ended, Broad Run's T.J Peeler put the Spartans on the scoreboard again when he intercepted a Dominion pass and returned it to the house. Broad Run won the game 27-6 to improve to 6-0.

The Spartans maintain control of their own destiny in the Dulles District with the win. Leading the way for Broad Run was linebacker Kenny McAdow, who was named the Velocity Sports Performance Player of the Game by the broadcast crew for his play on defense, mainly due to his task of mirroring, and limiting Reaves on the ground. The 2 tangled most of the game. The Titan's Jonathan Knight was the VSP recipient for the other side. The senior LB registered 11 tackles, and 9 1st hits, helping to keep the Spartans at bay, most of the game.

McAdow and the Spartans held Dominion to 114 yards of total offense. Reaves finished the game with 89 yards on 24 carries, but Dominion threw for just 27 yards on the day.

Breon Earl led the Spartan offense with 126 yards on 14 carries, and Peeler finished with 22 yards on 7 carries.

Broad Run's offense sputtered at times though, especially in the passing game. Quarterback Chris Jessop finished the day completing 5 of 16 passes for just 30 yards, and he was intercepted once.

Broad Run has now won 16 straight regular season games dating back to the beginning of the 2007 season. They will travel to play Loudoun County next Saturday in what could be a great game to attend.

The Titans fall to 1-5 overall and 1-2 in the Dulles District with the loss. The Titans will host Heritage next week.

The weather couldn't have been nicer for the Homecoming game today at Broad Run. The 2008 Homecoming King and Queen for Broad Run were named at halftime. Senior Eric Pastor was named Homecoming King, and Julie Zombakis was named Homecoming Queen.
