Khosa Leads Battlefield Past Liberty 40-21

HAYMARKET, VA - It didn't come easy, but the Battlefield Bobcats picked up their sixth win of the season in a highly competitive and hard fought game on Friday night by the score of 40-21.

The visiting Liberty Eagles (4-2; 1-2) were in a virtual deadlock with Battlefield up until the midway point of the fourth quarter when a few turnovers ultimately sealed their fate.

On Battlefield's Homecoming night, the spotlight belonged to backup running back Gerald Khosa, who, despite not being crowned Homecoming king, certainly played the part. Khosa took over when Battlefield's workhorse Adrian Ingram left the game in the second quarter and did not return. Khosa carried the ball 24 times for 174 yards and three touchdowns, which were accumulated in just two quarters of play.

When Khosa entered the game the Bobcats (6-0; 2-0) found themselves down 7-0 and had stalled on a few drives as the Eagle defense had managed to bottle up in the elusive Ingram. After a few successful runs, Khosa put Battlefield on the board with an 8-yard touchdown run with 2:24 to go in the first half.

Liberty would respond after the touchdown with their second touchdown of the first half. Senior QB Nick Potts connected with Derrick Lee on a 30-yard touchdown pass, Potts' second of the first half, to put the Eagles up at halftime 14-6. Potts' first touchdown went for 39-yards to Junior RB Wayne Fleming. Fleming has now scored a touchdown in five of the Eagles six games this season.

To open up the second half of play, standout junior quarterback Bo Revell proved to be the sparkplug for his team. Successfully leading his team down the length of the field, Revell capped things off with a 30-yard touchdown pass to senior tight end Marty Dawson to knot things up at 14 apiece.

Potts and the Eagles answered right back on the following possession as Lee caught his second touchdown pass of the game from 24 yards out to put the Eagles up 21-14.

But the lead for Liberty wouldn't last for long, thanks in part to Revell. The 6-foot-6 signal caller for Battlefield found senior wide receiver Blaine Mason in the endzone on their next possession to even the score once again. Overall, Revell would finish the game 9-of-14 for 188 yards and two touchdowns.

Liberty appeared to have answered right back on their second possession of the second half, but an untimely fumble by junior running back Bryon Williams on their own 30 yard line gave the ball back to Battlefield.

The Williams fumble proved costly as it would set up a 28-yard touchdown for Khosa which gave Battlefield their first lead of the game at 28-21.

Potts, who finished the night by going 14-of-19 and 195 yards for Liberty, would throw an interception into the hands of Battlefield defender Danny Drazl, which set up Khosa's third touchdown of the game to give the Bobcats a comfortable 34-21 lead.

The Bobcats would turn out the lights on Liberty's attempt of an upset when defender Blaine Mason intercepted Potts and returned it for a touchdown late in the 4th quarter to push the score to 40-21.

The Eagles stay on the road next week as they travel to Manassas to take on the Osbourn Park Yellow Jackets. This game will go a long way in determining whether or not the Eagles will have a chance at reaching the playoffs for the first time in four years. Exclusive coverage of this game kicks off at 7:15 on the GameDay Radio Network.
