Eagles Fly High in 54-0 Win Over Culpeper

BEALETON, VA - Seven different players scored touchdowns in Liberty's decisive 54-0 homecoming victory over Culpeper. Liberty is now 6-2 overall and 3-2 in Cedar Run District play. The Eagles clearly outmatched the Blue Devils in every facet of the game no stat showed that better than total yards.

Liberty racked up 454 yards of total offense while Culpeper was held to just 58 yards. The Eagles ran the ball 35 times for 306 yards and four touchdowns. Corey Lillard got the Eagles on the board first with a 16-yard touchdown run to cap off the opening drive of the game.

Two minutes later QB (and homecoming king) Nick Potts hit Lillard with a perfect pass for a 50-yard touchdown. Potts then connected with senior Kenny Tapscott for a 38-yard score to push the lead to 20-0 with 11:43 to go in the first half. Potts also threw two interceptions on the night and finished the game 7 of 12 for 148 yards.

Senior FB Damien Dodson rumbled for a 40-yard score in what may be the most impressive run of the year for the Eagles. Senior WR/DB Derrick Lee had yet another solid all-around game. Lee's highlight of the game came with less than a minute remaining in the first half as he returned a punt 30 yards for a touchdown to put the Eagles up by 34 points. Lee had another punt return called back on a penalty earlier in the first half.

Wayne Fleming and Shaheem Jones added short touchdown runs in the second half to push the lead up to 48-0 before Willie Propps returned a Steve Dodson pass 35 yards to finish off the scoring at 54-0.
