Gameday Notebook - P.W.C. (3rd Ed)
GAINESVILLE, VA - Week 4 in Prince William County featured the final tune up for most teams before district play kicks off. Teams from the Cedar Run and Cardinal Districts matched up in the majority of the match-ups. Let's take a look at how these highly anticipated contests played out.
BOBCATS HOLD OFF BULLDOGS
Junior QB Bo Revell had his breakout game as Battlefield (3-0) beat Hylton (1-2) 27-21 in Haymarket on Friday night. Revell went 14 of 23 for 242 yards and threw two touchdown passes to Blaine Mason from 54 and 60 yards respectively. Senior WR Matt Plum also had a big night catching 8 balls for 103 yards. Mason and Plum are trying to fill the void left by Erik Patterson after he graduated last year. Adrian Ingram once again had a big night on the ground for Battlefield carrying the ball 28 times for 167 yards and a touchdown.
Hylton head coach Lou Sorrentino had to be happy with the play of his quarterback Joel Himan. Himan outperformed Revell by completing 17 of 29 passes for 266 yards and two touchdowns. Kevin Wheeler had a big night catching 7 balls for 105 yards. Hylton has definitely improved this season and are showing the rest of the county that they don't plan on having their second losing season anytime soon.
VIKINGS CONTINUE TO DOMINATE
The Woodbridge Vikings (4-0) have been playing at a high level since the first game of the season and this week was no different as they beat Osbourn (1-2) 31-3. Rocket Williams ran for 132 yards and two touchdowns of 2 and 43 yards respectively. Williams has now rushed for 649 yards and 13 touchdowns in 4 games. Williams announced that he was narrowed his college choice down to five teams with Alabama and West Virginia being the front runners. Viking quarterback Frank Buckley had another good game going 12 for 22 for 132 yards.
A good defense causes turnovers and the Viking d was able to cause three on Friday night highlighted by Demetrius Quarles 47 yard interception return. Isiah Simmons and Rommel Burks both recovered fumbles in the game. Coach Keith King has had this team playing at a high level over the past three seasons and I personally hope they can make 2008 a special season for the Viking faithful.
FREEDOM WINS THRILLER
The Freedom Eagles (2-1) made their Cardinal district brethren proud by defeating Stonewall Jackson (0-3) 25-24. The Eagles had to weather big plays from the Raider defense and special teams. Raider return man Percy Faucette returned a kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown and DB Sean Blackman returned an interception 62 yards for a score. The Raider defense had their best game of the year as they picked off Freedom QB Lamar Howard four times in the game.
Freedom's senior running back Deon Jones is a young man that has flown under the radar in this county but for those who know, this kid can play. Jones rushed for 204 yards on 37 carries. Jones needs to perform near this level each week if the Eagles are going to make a push for Cardinal District crown.
TERRELL DOES IT AGAIN FOR OP
Sophomore QB Dominique Terrell had another pair of big plays that helped the Yellow Jackets (2-1) upend the visiting Gar-Field Indians 23-7. Terrell accounted for 212 yards of total offense, 166 coming on the ground thanks in large part to two touchdown runs of 39 and 91 yards respectively. Point blank, this young man is going to be a special player.
Senior RB Shawn Khanamuenwai also played a big role in the win by rushing for 89 yards to help the Yellow Jackets run for 296 total yards. Impressive numbers against a solid Gar-Field (1-2) defense.
Bryce Miller had another solid game, carrying the load 22 times for 110 yards and the Indians only score of the ball game. Gar-Field is a good team that needs to step it up a bit and help coach Tom Gryder make his first year as a head coach a successful one.

PWC NOTEBOOK GAME TO WATCH
Hylton (1-2) at Forest Park (2-1)
Coach Lou Sorrentino will be going for his 60th career win on Friday night when his Bulldogs travel 3 miles, that's right 3 miles, to take on Charlie Chandler's Bruins for the first of two meetings this season.
Hylton's streak of 15 straight non-losing seasons came to an end last year when the Bulldogs went 3-7. Hylton looks like a much improved team after sticking with Battlefield last weekend. QB Joel Himan had the best game of his career against a stout Bobcat defense. If Himan can build off of his performance the Bulldogs have a great chance at getting back to the tradition of Hylton football.
Forest Park looks poised to get their first win against Hylton in school history as they have been playing well so far this season. Coach Chandler returns 15 starters this season and the cohesiveness is showing. Start with Tunde Bakare, who is as dangerous a runner as you'll find in the area and was also garnered all-district honors last season at linebacker. Miquel Marshall and B.J. Scott give Senior QB Bruce Facundas two of the best wideouts in the county to throw the ball to.
If I wasn't calling the Liberty vs. Osbourn game Friday night I would be driving out to Woodbridge to check this one out. I've had a hard time deciding on the winner of this ball game but I'm betting on Forest Park getting that first big win against nearby rival Hylton.
Prediction: Forest Park 21, Hylton 20
