Fleming Leads Eagles Past Wolverines 50-7
BEALETON, VA - The Liberty Eagles improved to 2-0 on the season after defeating the North Stafford Wolverines 50-7 Friday night at Kip Hull Field. Bealeton was abuzz for the first home game of the season and the Eagles came out with guns blazing. The Eagles dominated in the first half scoring touchdowns on each of their first four drives of the game.
The Liberty offensive line man handled the Wolverine defense all night long. The big five up front led the Eagles to 271 rushing yards on 34 carries, six of which went for touchdowns. Kory Gough, Ryan Grimes, Jeremiah Kearns, Keith Bywaters and Shawn Otte give Liberty one of the best lines they have had in recent memory.
Senior FB Damien Dodson showed his agility on his first touchdown by hurdling a defender, running over another and carrying two more into the end zone to put the Eagles up 6-0. Dodson would score again later in the first half from 9 yards out.
Junior RB Wayne Fleming also had two rushing TD's. An 11 yard run in the first half coupled with a 12 yard score in the second half. Fleming has had a great start to the 2008 season and has become an integral part to the Eagle offense.
UVA commit Corey Lillard also scored twice for the Eagles. One by ground and one by air. His first score came in the 2nd quarter on a 1 yard dive. He later caught an 11 yard pass from Nick Potts with 12 seconds to go in the first half to put the Eagles up 35-0 going into halftime.
Senior QB Nick Potts had a solid outing going 9 of 12 for 160 yards and had the one touchdown pass to Lillard. Potts continues to show great poise and awareness in the pocket and displayed his accuracy and arm strength throughout the game. Potts has the tools to have a breakout senior campaign and has added a new dimension to the Eagle attack with his big arm and heady play.
The Eagles travel to Stafford high school next Friday night as they look to improve to 3-0 on the season. Exclusive coverage of Liberty football will begin at 7:15 right here on the Gameday Radio Network.
