PEARISBURG, VA - On a rainy Friday evening, the only bright spot in Pearisburg was the naming of its football field after its former legendary head coach, Steve Ragsdale, who retired last season after 30 years. Christiansburg would then spoil the celebration, as they rolled to a 35-14 win against Giles.

Cody Journell would take the opening kickoff and gallop 92 yards for the score. He would then kick the PAT to give the Spartans (0-2) a 7-0 lead just three seconds into the game.

After stopping the Blue Demons (2-0) on their first position, Giles would get the ball back on the punt. However, the Spartans, who had trouble holding onto the ball last week, would once gain cough up the pigskin at their own 18-yard line. Christiansburg would waste no time in tying the game, as Ryan Fisher scored from 7-yards out and Brad Cox's PAT would make it 7-7 with 7:38 left in the opening quarter.

Giles would take a 14-7 lead with 3:55 still to go in the opening quarter when Travis Robertson bolted in from 3-yards out and Journell would connect on the PAT.

Christiansburg would tie the game early in the second quarter on an 18-yard scamper by Zack Weller. Cox's PAT would make it 14-14 with 9:43 to go in the second quarter. With a light rain starting to fall, the Blue Demons would strike once again before the half, this time Steven Wills would complete a 57-yard pass to Chris Dobbins and Cox's PAT made it 21-14 with 1:18 left in the opening half. Wills' pass and Dobbins touchdown catch were the first in their varsity career.

The Blue Demons would double its advantage to 28-14 when Keith Johnson bullied his way in on a fourth-and-2 and Cox would convert the PAT with 7:16 remaining in the third quarter.

Christiansburg's final touchdown of the game would come with just seven seconds left in the third quarter when Weller hit the Giles runner in the end zone, causing the pigskin to fall to the ground. An alert Tyler Tennessen would fall on the loose pork and Cox's Pat would make it 35-14 after three quarters.

Neither team would score in the final quarter, as Christiansburg handed Giles its second loss in as many weeks by a 35-14 margin.

Christiansburg finished the night by racking up 302 yards of total offense. The Blue Demon defense would hold the Spartans to a mere 80 yards, all rushing.

Keith Johnson led Christiansburg with 95 yards on 19 carries and one touchdown. Greg Lee tallied 84 yards on nine tries, while Zack Weller finished with 42 yards on six carries.

Steven Wills completed 2-of-5 passes for 55-yards, including one touchdown

Giles, who mustered just 80 yards, was led by Justin Gautier's 32 yards on seven carries. Matt Bane added 31 yards on six carries.
