Roanoke Catholic, Cave Spring, Salem. Northside, Lord Botetourt, Hidden Valley and Blacksburg all picked up wins in cross country action this past week.

Celtics, Knights Claim Roanoke Catholic Invitational

ROANOKE, VA - Roanoke Catholic boys and the Cave Spring girls' team came away winners in the Roanoke Catholic Invitational held Wednesday at Roanoke's Washington Park.

In the boys meet, Sean Flynn of Roanoke Catholic finished first with a time of 15:56. Austin Grubb of Floyd County was second with a time of 15:57, Andrew Grubb of Floyd County was third with a time of 16:09, Cody Seymour of Cave Spring was fourth with a time of 16:21 and Andrew Smith of Cave Spring finished fifth with a time of 16:23 to round out the top five individual runners.

Roanoke Catholic finished first with 37 points and Cave Spring was second with 45 points. Floyd County (43) was third, followed by Staunton River (132), North Cross (139), Craig County (154), East Mont (215), VES (221), Hargrave Military (236) and Fishburne Military (257).

Cave Spring took four of the top five spots to run away in the girls meet. Leading the Lady Knights was a first place showing by Tatum Tyler (18:58), Molly Western (18:59), Melissa Schaefer (19:03)m Reema Azar (19:36) and Natalie Andrusky (20:11) of Staunton River to round out the top five runners.

Cave Spring took the girls' team title with 19 points and Roanoke Catholic finished a distant second with 51 points. Giles finished third with 101 points, followed by Floyd County (112), Craig County (137), James River (140), North Cross (158) and VES (212).

Salem, Northside Win In Dual Meet

SALEM, VA - The Salem boys squad and the Northside girls' team both won during a dual meet held Wednesday at Mowles Spring Park.

Brian Ledwith finished first to lead Salem to the victory with a time of 18:45. Salem finished first with 22 points and Northside was second with 36 points.

In the girls' meet, Salem's Sarah Hakkenberg finished first with a time of 21:42. Northside won the girls meet with 22 points and Salem finished with 39 points.

Lord Botetourt, Hidden Valley Win In Quad Meet

VINTON, VA - Lord Botetourt took the boys title and Hidden Valley ran away with the girls crown in a quad meet held Wednesday at Vinton.

In the boys meet, Bryan Lewis of Hidden Valley finished first with a time of 17:09. Zeke Hunsburger of Lord Botetourt was second with a time of 17:24, Kyle O'Connor of Wm. Byrd was third with a time of 17:32, Nick Leffell of Wm. Byrd was fourth with a time of 17:59 and Ben Luedtke finished fifth with a time of 18:14 to round out the top five.

Lord Botetourt took the boys team title with 38 points, followed by Hidden Valley (40) and Wm. Byrd (43). Glenvar did not fill a full boys team.

In the girls meet, Glenvar's Megan Marsico finished first with a time of 17:59. The next four spots all went to Hidden Valley.

Leading the Lady Titans were led by Mary Catherine Sowder (20:16), Annie LeHardy (21:04), Haley Cutright (21:06) and Lindsay Skolrood (22:12).

Hidden Valley took the girls crown with 20 points, followed by Glenvar (54), Lord Botetourt (69) and Wm. Byrd (102).

Thomas Jefferson, Blacksburg Claim Knights Invitational

SALEM, VA - Thomas Jefferson claimed the boys title and Blacksburg took the girls honors in the annual Knights Crossing Invitational held last Saturday at Green Hill Park.

In the boys' event, Spencer Franton of Morritown West won the individual title with a time of 16:17.45. Bryan Lewis of Hidden Valley finished second with a time of 16:23.21, Blacksburg's Matt Howard was third with a time of 16:25.24, Zeke Hunsberger of Lord Botetourt was fourth with a time of 16:32.33 and Michael Mansey of Science Hill finished fifth with a time of 16:32.84 to round out the top five of 231 individual boys' runners.

Thomas Jefferson Science and Technology took the boys title with 56 points and Morristown West (Tenn.) was second with 64 points. Blacksburg finished third with 87 points, followed by Science Hill (Tenn.) with 123 points and Christiansburg with 220 points to round out the top five teams.

In the girls' meet, Glenvar's Megan Marsico finished first with a new course record time of 18:01.56. The old meet record of 18:09.44 was set in 2006 by Catherine White of Northside.

Allie Scalf of Science Hill was second with a time of 19:06.36, Sarah Stites of Thomas Jefferson was third with a time of 19:10.41, Annie LeHardy of Hidden Valley was fourth with a time of 19:11.68 and Marion's Rice finished fifth with a time of 19:13.22 to round out the top five of 226 female runners.

Blacksburg claimed the girls' title with 68 points and Thomas Jefferson was second with 79 points. Science Hill (Tenn.) was third with 97 points, followed by Hidden Valley (140) and Cave Spring (206).
