Murray's 2 TD's Lead Rams Past Bruins 26-7
FAIRFAX, VA -The Robinson Rams realize that just about every game will be a fight. With what can only be described a treacherous schedule, nearly any win for Robinson will come as well-earned.
And last Thursday against Lake Braddock, they'll certainly be more than happy to walk away with a 27-6 victory.
After holding a commanding 19-0 lead in the middle of the third quarter, it had appeared things were slipping away for Robinson. Lake Braddock quarterback Ryan Curtis had just completed a touchdown pass to tight end Brennan Haggett and were again threatening to score with the ball at the two yard line.
That was until Robinson caught themselves a huge break. On a run up the middle, the ball was stripped and recovered by a Rams defender, completely shifting momentum of the game once again. Robinson would go down the field to score once again, and that was all she wrote for the Lake Braddock Bruins.
The lead for Robinson first got started on a deep touchdown pass from senior quarterback Timmy Meier, who found tight end Mike Creighton wide open downfield for Robinson's first points of the year. The score and added extra point would put the Rams up 7-0 with 5:16 left in the first quarter.
And while it seemed the game would evolve into a shootout, instead, both teams dominated up front along their respective defensive lines so neither team could establish a successful running game.
It wasn't until the beginning of the second quarter when Robinson strung together a substantial drive that saw them drive the length of the field for their second touchdown of the night. Capped off by an Alex Murray touchdown run, the Rams would proceed to take a 13-0 lead.
Yet after Robinson was able to drive the length of the field, the game once again reverted back into an offensive struggle. Neither team surrendered much of anything for the rest of the half, shaping up what promised to be a low scoring game.
However, once the teams reconvened at the start of the half, defensive back Johnny McDevitt reopened the scoring after intercepting a Lake Braddock pass and returning it back for another Robinson touchdown. With the failed two-point conversion, Robinson would soon take a commanding 19-0 lead with 10:16 left to play in third.
Then came Lake Braddock's comeback bid and fumble at the two-yard line. With Murray's second touchdown on the night helping to seal the deal for Robinson, they were able to move to 1-0 on the year while Lake Braddock drops to 0-1.
Next up for Lake Braddock is a meeting with Woodson while Robinson must face the top-ranked Stone Bridge Bulldogs. Coverage of that game will be brought to you exclusively by the Gameday Radio Network.
NOTE: Robinson head coach Mark Bendorf spent the entirety of last night's game upstairs on the press box and not on the sidelines.
