Renner Comes Away With Elite 11 Award

As the final day of the Elite 11 came to a close, Bryn Renner was going to make sure he would leave his mark before all was said and done.

While just missing out on the most accurate passer award, Renner was named the most improved player at the camp.

"That's the whole goal of coming out here is to get better, make sure I'm being a better quarterback," said Renner.

Aside from Renner's most improved award, Florida's Aaron Murray was named MVP of the camp while Richard Brehaut had beaten out Renner for most accurate. But more importantly, which quarterback did he think was going to help his team the most in the immediate future?

"I honestly don't know because everyone is so good," said Renner. "They're all here for a reason. They're all real good quarterbacks who competed real well, so everyone has a shot."

With the presentation of the awards always grabbing the most attention from college football fans, how exactly did the rest of the day go for Renner?

"It went real well. I finished strong," he said. "We did the same drills basically, but more intense and more full speed and more competitive."

The West Springfield quarterback also let us in on one of the more fun events that took place at the Elite 11, which was the NCAA Football 2009 tournament. The Elite 11 is sponsored by EA Sports, so you can bet that all the players were taken care of by the video game conglomerate.

"In one of the lobby rooms, there were about six or seven TV's in there which had NCAA [Football 2009] playing and you could play as many times as you want," said Renner.

"So we had a little bracket set up on Tuesday night and we had a little contest. I lost in the first round to Matt Stafford by seven points after he scored the winning touchdown with six seconds left. So I lost in the first round, but Chase Daniel was supposed to be the best quarterback there, but he lost in the semi-finals, and he wasn't too happy."

Interestingly enough, Renner competed against Stafford without playing as North Carolina, which is where he'll play in college. Rather, he chose to compete as Texas Tech.

"Well, I normally play with UNC, but I was playing against Georgia, who's the number one team in the game," explained Renner. "I also like [Texas Tech] because they run a spread attack. Plus, Crabtree's pretty good, so you can throw it to him and get a couple deep balls."

Now that the camp is over, along with its many perks, most have departed for home, but Renner assured us that he'll be staying in contact with every quarterback he's met.

"We've already been texting back and forth," said Renner. "Plus, we'll probably be around each other with college football and stuff like that, so we'll all be anxious to see how everyone turns out."

Still out in California, Renner will depart for Virginia at 11 AM on Friday. Asked if he was tired at all, he admitted he was pretty worn out.

"I just woke up from a long nap, trying to get some rest," said a laughing Renner.

When he does eventually come home, Renner explained to us that one of the best parts of the camp may not be the competition itself, but just having the opportunity to be around so many talented players.

"The friendships you'll build will last a lifetime," said Renner. "We can go back and say that we worked out four days with the best, and that's what I'm going to take away from it."
