Is Oakton's Jack Tyler Close to an Offer?

Oakton linebacker Jack Tyler isn't a stranger to anyone. He's been an absolute force on the football field since his sophomore year and head coach Joe Thompson even describes him as "the best linebacker he's ever seen."
It may come as no surprise then, that the Concorde District standout has been receiving a lot of attention from various schools. However, to this point, Tyler has yet to receive an offer but has reportedly been turning in very impressive performances at several one-day camps.
"I thought I did the best with anyone on the one-on-ones," said Tyler when describing his experience at Delaware.
Despite being a DI-AA school, Delaware is among the elite in its classification, but Tyler also impressed just as much when attending Virginia Tech's one-day camp.
"I did pretty well," said Tyler. "I had my best times for the agility drills but I unfortunately couldn't do one-on-ones because I had to leave early for the [lacrosse] state championship."
Despite not attending the entirety of Tech's camp, Tyler did manage to turn in an excellent performance at UVA's camp the next week. Cited as one of the best at his position, Tyler unfortunately walked away without an offer, but it's a situation he understands full well.
"If I impress them enough they'll call me up and let me know, so hopefully I do well and we'll see what happens," said Tyler.
Ranked currently as Gameday's #15 overall prospect, the 6-foot-2 linebacker's vision and speed make him attractive to coaches, but for us, it's his heart that tops everything off. There is, of course, a reason why coach Thompson believes him to be the best linebacker he's ever seen. When a big third or fourth down situation presents itself, it's oftentimes Tyler stepping up and answering for the defense. It's a tenacity often not seen in too many players, but it's what separates Tyler from the rest of the pack.
Recording 113 tackles last year, his stats do speak for themselves. However, the Oakton Cougar isn't sitting on any offers at this point, but Tyler did mention one school that is very high on him.
"I impressed Delaware a lot," said Tyler. "They kind of have to wait for all the Division I guys to settle in, but I think I did well, and we'll see how I do with the camps down the road."
Tyler will be visiting are Maryland and Virginia Tech's one-day camps in the future, and while hoping to impress enough to get his first offer, Tyler admitted there are two schools he's especially hoping to hear from.
"I love the traditions at Penn State and Tech," said Tyler. "I've always been a Tech fan my whole life growing up, so they've always been one of my favorites. Penn State, when I went down there for junior day, I loved it down there... both their schools are pretty much centered around football."
With several impressive performances under his belt at multiple one-day camps, Tyler does realize that it is still very possible to start the season without any offers to his credit. Could he possibly grab one during the fall?
"Well, I think we'll have real good team this year, so if we have a real good season, I think I could reel one in," said Tyler.
Whatever happens though, the Oakton standout did promise us that he won't be stressing out entirely over the process.
"Whatever happens, happens," said Tyler. "I love football and that's what I want to do, so hopefully that works out for me."
