Robertson Wows Coaches, Is Close to Offer

By now, most of the Northern Region knows about Stephon Robertson. For those that don't know about Edison prospect, just ask opposing offenses. Right away they'll tell you he can hit like a freight train or a Mack truck--you pick the comparative noun.

He is pretty much a one-man YouTube highlight reel every time he takes the field. However, not only can the talented linebacker knock the socks off of ballcarriers, but his instincts are extraordinary. Flashing a 4.53 forty-time, Robertson's pursuit to the ball is second-to-none in this area. And when he makes contact, he never misses. He'll either knock you off your feet or drive you back for a loss.

It's no surprise then that college coaches across the country are in a frenzy over Robertson.

"Everybody loves Stephon," said Edison head coach Vaughn Lewis. "He's an all-region linebacker, but he's going to be a safety in college. He runs in the 4.5's and is tough as a nail. As a linebacker, his instincts are fantastic, and in college at safety, he'll be a real good one."

The reason for Robertson needing to play the safety position is due to the prospect's height. At 5-foot-10, he is simply too small to play at linebacker, so he is currently being recruited as a safety. Although according to Lewis, the change of position won't be too much of a roadblock.

"We were in passing league the other day and our safety didn't show up, so I told Stephon to go back there and play safety," said Lewis. "He was a natural. He went back there and was the best safety we had on the field! He broke on the ball well, had an interception, I mean, he just has great instincts. So he won't have a problem adjusting to safety."

Robertson just last week competed in Tech's one-day camp, but there are plenty others that are in hot pursuit of him as well.

"Rutgers is in love with him and West Virginia wants him," said Lewis. "[College coaches] that come by here and watch film on him and they just say, 'holy cow!'"

Right now, however, Robertson doesn't currently hold any offers, but that fact will soon change once the school semester is officially over. As of now, Robertson has not qualified for the NCAA Clearinghouse, yet Lewis informs us that it's only a matter of time before he does.

"We believe that by the end of this semester, that he will be a qualifier," said Lewis. "He's going to Huntington, which is an after school learning center, and he's doing all the right things. So he'll be a qualifier."

Lewis then went on to mention that Robertson has been working tirelessly in the classroom, and since his sophomore year, he has failed to get below a 2.85 GPA.

So is it safe to say then that Robertson's recruitment will blow up once academically qualified?

"Yeah, I'm assuming so," said Lewis. "I mean, I've been coaching football now since 1972, and he's just one great football player."

Right now, Robertson is Gameday's #13 ranked prospect, but we expect that to change immediately if the offers start coming through. Make sure to continually check GamedayMagazine.com for any updates regarding Robertson and his recruitment this summer.
