Weaver To Join Basso at WVU

ASHBURN, VA - Senior RHP Ty Weaver has informed Coach Greg Van Zant that he will be playing for the West Virginia University Mountaineers beginning this fall. He will be joining fellow teammate, Tyler Basso, who recently committed to play there as well.

Weaver, one of the aces on the Bulldogs staff, is having an incredible year on the mound. He is 7-0 on the year, with an outstanding 2.25 ERA. In 46 2/3 innings pitched, he has struck out 43 opposing hitters. Opponents are hitting only .208 against Ty. Going back to the 2007 season, Weaver has 14 straight victories for Stone Bridge, which ties the school record for career victories. Weaver spent most of his youth baseball days behind the dish, however it became apparent as he grew more and more in high school (to his current height of 6' 8" !), catcher would NOT be a good position for him. Ty has worked very hard over the last few seasons and developed into the outstanding pitcher he is today.

Stone Bridge baseball is having their most successful season of their short 8 year history, with Weaver playing a key role in the team's outstanding results. The Bulldogs are 17-2 overall, 12-1 in Liberty district play and clinched their first Liberty regular season crown earlier this week. Head Coach Sam Plank had the following to say about Weaver, "Ty has displayed tremendous leadership not only on the mound but as a leader of our team. It is amazing how far Ty has come in just two years of pitching. Ty has won 14 consecutive games tying the record of career wins at Stone Bridge H.S.. I think if Ty continues to work he has a chance to be a special pitcher."

West Virginia University competes in the Big East Conference. They are 11-10 in conference play, 32-14 overall. They currently are in 5th place in the Big East. Ty had the following to say about his commitment, "I'm excited to play baseball at WVU. It has a great reputation for baseball, and I'm looking forward to playing with my good friend Tyler Basso."
