Vikings Let Lead Slip Away, Fall to Stonewall 5-4

On a cloudy afternoon, the Vikings hosted the Stonewall Jackson Raiders in a key Cedar Run district match up at Fireman's Field. Going into the top of the 7th inning, the Vikes could not hold on to their 4-2 lead as the Raiders would tie it up with two runs on only one hit, three walks, and a costly Viking defensive error. The Vikes would go quietly in the bottom of the 7th inning. In the top of the 8th inning, Raider starting pitcher Buddy Fields would single to start the inning and would eventually score on a Tyler Jewett sacrifice fly. The Vikings could not score in their half of the inning losing to the Raiders 5-4.

Buddy Fields would go six innings and Josh Cesario would pitch the final two innings to get the win. The Vikings would do all their scoring in the bottom of the 3rd inning with juniors Iain Mottice and Wes Walker and sophomore Alex Owens hitting three consecutive doubles and all three would score. TJ Daeschner would reach on a walk and would score on a wild pitch for the Vikings fourth run.

The Vikings fall to 9-8 overall and 5-6 in the district. Their three remaining games are against Culpeper, Fauquier, and Stonewall Jackson.
