Viking's Baseball Season Comes To An End
MANASSAS, VA - The 2008 baseball season ended last night for the Loudoun Valley Vikings as they lost to Osbourn High School 7-4 in the first round of the Cedar Run District playoffs. Eagle starting pitcher Corey Turner went four innings getting the win. Travis Lehman finished the game to preserve the win.
In the bottom of the 2nd inning, the Eagles jumped out on top 2-0 on a Damian Waterman RBI single scoring Travis Brunz from 3rd base. Brunz would later score on a Viking defensive error. In the top of the 4th inning the Vikings would score two runs taking a 3-2 lead. With one out sophomore Alexander Barr (2-3, 2 runs scored) would reach on a single and advance to 2nd base on a fielder's choice. Junior leadoff hitter, Iain Mottice (3-4, RBI, SB, 2 runs scored) would hit a single scoring Barr. Junior catcher Wes Walker (2-2, double, 2 walks, 2 RBI's) hit a double down the left field line to plate Mottice who was running on the play.
In the bottom half of the 4th inning, the Eagles would score three runs to take the lead for good. With the bases loaded, Ben Garlick would coax a walk to score a run and Travis Lehman hit a two RBI single scoring Damian Waterman and Devon Snow for a 5-3 lead. The Vikings would get one more run on a Wes Walker RBI single scoring Alexander Barr but it would not be enough. The Eagles would add a run in both the 5th and 6th innings for the final margin.
The Vikings finish the season with an overall record of 9-12. The Eagles play the winner of the Battlefield/Fauquier game in the semi-finals on Wednesday, May 21 at Osbourn Park High School.
