Turner Hurls Osbourn Past Valley 5-2


PURCELLVILLE, VA - On a beautiful Friday evening in the friendly confines of Fireman's Field, the Loudoun Valley Vikings squared off against district opponent Osbourn Eagles. Eagle starting pitcher Corey Turner pitched a complete game scattering eight hits, striking out seven hitters and allowing only two runs in beating the Vikings 5-2.

The Vikings took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning when sophomore Alex Owens hit a single to right field. Junior Adam Reed would reach on an error to put runners at 1st and 2nd. Designated hitter TJ Daeschner would hit an RBI single plating Owens. Sophomore Daniel Fleming came up and hit a single. In the ensuing play, Reed would try to score from 2nd base but right fielder Devon Snow threw him out at the plate to end the frame.

In the top of the 3rd inning, the Vikes committed some costly errors that proved to be the deciding factor in the game. With one out, catcher Cal Masterson would reach on a single. Centerfielder Ben Garlick would reach on an infield error to put runners at 1st and 2nd. Masterson and Garlick than executed a double steal. With runners on 2nd and 3rd, Devon Snow would reach on another infield error that scored Masterson. A sacrifice fly would plate Garlick. Corey Turner came up and hit a two run homer making the score 4-1. The next Eagle hitter would ground out to end the inning. The Eagles would add another run in the top of the 4th inning.

In the bottom of the 6th inning, sophomore Daniel Fleming would hit a double to the gap in left field. Sophomore Beattie Southerland would follow suit hitting a double to the gap in right field plating Southerland and that would be it for the Vikes. Junior pitcher Kevin Rinek would go the distance for the Vikes. He pitched well giving up seven hits and allowing five runs only two being earned.

Loudoun Valley falls to 8-7 overall and 4-5 in the district. The Vikings travel to Battlefield on Tuesday, May 6th. Game time is 6pm.
