Taylor, McCowat Power Titans Past Heritage

STERLING, VA - The Dominion Titans rode the arm of Geoff McCowat and the bat of Chris Taylor to score their first ever Dulles District Tournament victory, by a tally of 7-2 in Titan Territory on Saturday afternoon.
McCowat cruised through 5 innings, noy allowing a run losing his shutout bid in the 6th. He finished the night going 6 innings, giving up 3 hits, 2 runs, and struck out 9. McCowat set the Dominion season record for strikeouts with 67 in 40.1 innings.
Taylor hit 2 home runs, one which cleared the 50' neeting in left center fielder for the longest home run this reporter has ever witnessed at Dominion. He also hit another to straight away left field giving him 4 for the season which also broke a Dominion record. He added a double and drove in 4 runs on the afternoon.
The Titans started the scoring in the first inning. Jonathan Knight singled, Matt Sherrill grounded out and Taylor hit his gargantuan home run. Anthony Bartolotti drew a base on balls, Bubba Noro singled, Ryan Doyle was retired on a fielders choice, Steve Smucker walked to load the bases. Tyler Lewkovich came in to replace starter John Rogerson and was greeted with an RBI single to left by McCowat making the score 3-0 after 1.
The Titans would add 3 more in the 2nd inning. Sherrill started things off with a base hit and Taylor hit his second home run of the game to make it 5-0. Anthony Bartolotti singled, Noro singled, and Doyle hit a sacrifice fly to right scoring Bartolotti. The Titans closed out their scoring with an additional run in the 5th when Knight drove in Greg Smucker.
Meanwhile McCowat was cruising having given up 1 hit through 5 innings. The Pride scored in the 6th. Rogerson hit a ball to center field that was lost in the sun and Gerald Harvey launched one off the center field fence for a triple and scored on a wild pitch. Taylor came in to relieve McCowat in the 7th and retired 3 of the 4 hitters he faced.
The Titans will now travel to Ashburn on Tuesday night to face the regular season champions, the Broad Run
Spartans. Game time is 7 pm.
