Panthers Batter Eagles 14-6 To Stay Atop Dulles

STERLING, VA - Potomac Falls woke their bats up Friday night as six of the nine starters had multiple hits and the Panthers pushed 14 runs across the plate against a Freedom team that only had 11 healthy players. Mike Detaranto picked up his 6th win of the season and Brian Griffin recorded his 2nd save on the year. The Panthers roll to a 14-6 victory in Sterling.

Freedom got on the board in the 1st inning when Jeremy Rilko led off the game with a single to rightfield. He promptly stole second base and then scored when he attempted to steal third and the throw went into leftfield. The Panthers responded with 5 runs in the bottom half of the inning on 7 hits. Rob Malan led off with a double to rightfield and after two quick outs, Michael Spring drove Malan home with a single to left. Pat Nightingale and Chris Pelto followed with run scoring singles before Chad McMichael hit a double to deep centerfield. He was followed by Eric Dimsey and Jake Orpin who both hit run scoring singles.

The Panthers added 3 more runes in the second inning on RBI singles by Nightingale, Pelto and Dimsey to up the score to 8 to 1. The Eagles started to get back in the game in the top of the 3rd inning when Ali Moosvi led off with a single. After Jeremy Farah was hit by a pitch, Rilko hit a single to load the bases with no outs. Anthony Perez then hit an RBI single to leftfield. Detaranto then hit Kyle Severns with a pitch to force in the second run of the inning. Matt Murphy hit into a fielder's choice before Trevor Moore executed a perfect suicide squeeze to score Perez from third. Kyle Groome then hit a double to centerfield to plate the fifth run and make the score 8 to 6.

Potomac Falls then proceeded to score 5 runs in the 4th inning to seal the victory. Dimsey hit a double and Orpin reached on an error at short. Malan then hit a single to plate Dimsey. After a walk to Greg Woodlief to load the bases, Aaron Sweger followed with a 2 run double to leftfield. Spring then followed with an RBI single and Nightingale added his third RBI on a single to put the game out of reach at 14 to 6.

Detaranto left the game recording 7 strikeouts in 5 innings and Brian Griffin came on in relief and pitched the last 2 innings. Griffin struckout 4 of the 6 batters he faced for the save. Potomac Falls will play Dominion on Monday and Tuesday and then travel to Broad Run on Friday.
