Brentsville's Frazier Too Much For Panthers

MANASSAS, VA - With a trip to the State tournament on the line, Justin Frazier singled in the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the 8th inning to give Brentsville the win over Potomac Falls, and send them into the Region II championship game against Broad Run on Friday.

Potomac Falls got on the board early when Rob Malan led off with a walk, stole second, advanced to third on a balk and scored on a passed ball. The Tigers came right back with a run of there own when Clark Garrison singled. Garrison was erased at second on a fielder's choice by Scott Betterly. Hayden Gilmore then walked and Mike Detaranto appeared to get out of the inning on a strikeout to Justin Weaver but the pitch eluded Mike Spring and the bases were loaded for Justin Frazier who singled to plate Betterly and tie the game at 1-1.

The Panthers regained the lead in the 3rd inning when Malan walked again. Greg Woodlief sacrificed Malan to second before Aaron Sweger hit a long fly ball to center field. Malan tagged on the play and the throw to third was wide and ended up in the Panther dugout to plate Malan.

Brentsville then took the lead in the 4th inning on consecutive singles by Andrew Johnson and Tyler LaGrand. After a ground out, Betterly walked to load the bases with two outs. Gilmer then hit a sharp ball to short but Woodlief was screened by the runner and could not knock the ball down as both Johnson and LaGrand scored on the play to give the Tigers the lead at 3-2.

Potomac Falls tied the game in the 5th inning when Malan doubled to right field for the first hit of the night. Sweger was then hit by a pitch and Malan scored on an RBI single by Mike Spring.

The Panthers brought in Jacob Kline to pitch the last three innings and both teams had scoring opportunities in the last three innings before the Tigers scored the decisive run in the 8th. With the win, Brentsville will host Broad Run on Friday for the Region II championship.
