Yorktown Stuns Vikings 15-5 On 15 Hits

ALEXANDRIA, VA - On a beautiful Saturday afternoon, the Vikings traveled to Yorktown for a non-district contest. The last time these two teams met was in last season's 2007 National District Championship game where the Vikes won in extra innings. This game however, had a much different outcome as Yorktown got some revenge pounding out 15 hits defeating the Vikings 15-5.
In the top of the 1st inning, the Vikes would strike first when pitcher Adam Reed smashed a two run homer over the right field fence for a 2-0 Viking lead. It was Reed's second home run of the season. In the 2nd inning, the Vikes would add to their lead scoring two more times. Shortstop Daniel Fleming would reach on an error and advance to 2nd base on a balk. Centerfielder Thomas Moxley coaxed a walk. With runners on 1st and 2nd, catcher Wes Walker hit a double down the left field line plating Fleming. 1st baseman Alex Owens would hit a single scoring Moxley. Yorktown starting pitcher Kyle Toulouse would get the next two Viking hitters out to end the inning. Toulouse pitched the entire game to get the win. .
In the bottom of the 5th inning and the Vikings leading 4-3, Yorktown broke the game open sending 9 hitters to the plate and scoring 5 runs to take an 8-4 lead. In the top of the 6th inning, the Vikings would get one back when Daniel Fleming hit a solo home run over the left field fence, his first of the year.
In the bottom of the 6th inning, Yorktown would put the game away scoring 7 runs to "run rule" the Vikings. Yorktown catcher Chris Golick highlighted the inning with a 3-run homer. The Vikings fall to 7-4 overall and remain 4-2 in the Cedar Run District. The Vikes travel to Liberty HS on Tuesday, April 22nd. Game time is 6pm.
