Taylor Goes Distance in Titan Win Over Falcons

STERLING, VA - The Dominion Titans returned home on Tuesday night to host the Falcons of Briar Woods High School. The game figured to be a pitcher's duel between the Falcon's Ian Hickman, and Dominion's Chris Taylor.

The first 2 innings were scoreless, as both pitchers settled in early, until the Titans broke the game open in the third inning by scoring 4 runs. Matt Sherrill and Ryan Doyle walked to start the inning. After a Ryan Skeffington RBI ground out, Chris Taylor walked to load the bases. Anthony Bartolotti delivered a 2 run double to right field and Geoff McCowat singled to right driving in the fourth run of the inning.

The Falcons came back in the top of the fourth on a hit and 2 hit batters to make the score 4-2, but that is as close as they would get. The Titans scored 2 in the 5th on RBIs from Greg Smucker and Sherrill. A mental lapse led to the Titans final runs in the 6th. Final score - Dominion 8, Briar Woods 2.

Ian Hickman took the loss. Alan Jackson had 2 of the Falcon's 5 hits. Chris Taylor went the distance, scattering 5 hits and striking out 7 for his second win of the season. Bartolotti had 2 RBIs, and McCowat, and Jonathan Knight, had 2 hits each to lead the Titans 9 hit attack.

The 6-2 Titans travel to Leesburg to take on the Loudoun County Raiders on Friday night. Game time is scheduled for 6:00.
