Sweger, Malan, Help Power Panthers to 14-1 Win


SOUTH RIDING, VA - Aaron Sweger, last year's Dulles District Player of the Year, continued his hot hitting in South Riding Tuesday night, going 3 for 4 with 2 doubles, as Potomac Falls pounded out 14 hits and scored 14 runs, in their 14-1 win against the Freedom Eagles.

The Panthers got on the board in the 1st inning when Chad McMichael singled, and Sweger followed with a drive to leftfield that hit the top of the fence for a double. Potomac Falls added 4 runs in the 2nd inning on Pat Nightingale walked, and was sacrificed to second by Jacob Kline. Eric Dimsey followed with a single, and Jake Orpin walked to load the bases. Greg Woodlief then reached on an error to plate one run and McMichael hit into a fielders choice to score another. Sweger then followed with an RBI single to left field and Rob Malan then singled to drive in the 4th run of the inning.

Meanwhile, pitcher Jacob Kline cruised through the first inning before giving up a single to Kyle Groome, followed by a double to Dustin McIntosh, to start the 2nd inning. With runners at 2nd and 3rd, with no outs, Kline struck out Andrew Torre before giving up a sacrifice fly to Trevor Moore. This would be the only run the Eagles would score on the night. Potomac Falls scored 2 more runs in the 3rd inning on singles by Nightingale, Orpin, and Woodlief, to take a 7 - 1 lead.

Brian Griffin came in to pitch for the Panthers in the 4th inning, and hurled 2 innings of shut out ball, giving up 2 hits. The Panthers added 2 more runs in the 5th inning, with the key being a 2 RBI double by Malan, then scoring 5 runs in the 7th inning, to end the onslaught for the night. The big hits in the final frame being a 2 RBI double by McMichael, another double by Sweger and an RBI double by Nightingale.

Michael Fahey came in to pitch the 7th inning and after retiring the 1st batter, he hit Kyle Severns. With Severns on 1st base, Kyle Groome then hit a ground ball to shortstop Woodlief, who turned the 6-4-3 double play to end the game.
