Stone Bridge's Basso Commits To West Virginia

ASHBURN, VA - Senior RHP/3B Tyler Basso has informed Coach Greg Van Zant that he will be playing for the West Virginia University Mountaineers beginning this fall.

Basso, a key two way player for the Bulldogs, is having an outstanding season on the mound, in the field and at the plate. He is 5-1 on the year, with a miniscule 0.92 ERA. In 38 innings of work, he has 49 strikeouts while only walking 4. Opposing hitters are batting a paltry .147 against Tyler. Basso also threw back to back complete game shutouts earlier this season. He has 11 career wins and 82 career strikeout for the Bulldogs.

When he's not on the mound, Basso anchors third base for Sam Plank's Bulldogs. On the season, he's hitting .409 with a .490 OBP. He is also outstanding defensively both at third and while on the mound.

Stone Bridge baseball is having their most successful season of their short 8 year history, thanks in part to Basso's performance. The Bulldogs are 14-2 overall, 9-1 in Liberty district play and in first place. Coach Plank (a WVU alum himself) had the following to say about Tyler, "Tyler is having an amazing season thus far and I am glad to see that his hard work has paid off. He will be a great asset to the West Virginia University Baseball Team. It makes me proud to think about one of my guys playing for my alma mater."

West Virginia University competes in the Big East Conference. They are 11-7 in conference play, 32-11 overall. They currently are in 5th place in the Big East. Obviously excited about his future baseball plans, Tyler shared the following, "Playing for WVU has been my goal for a long time. I'm excited to get the opportunity to become a Mountaineer and play for Coach Van Zant."
