Peters Too Much for Titans; Pride Win 4-2
STERLING, VA - A combination of errors, bad base running, and too much Brenton Peters combined to deal the Titans their first Dulles District loss as they fell to the Heritage Pride, 6-4 Tuesday night in Sterling.
The Titans (6-3, 2-1)fell behind in the first inning as the Pride parlayed 2 hits, including a triple by lead off man Peters, and 4 errors into a 4-0 lead after 1.
The Titans began to chip away at the Pride lead when they scored in the third inning on a Ryan Skeffington base hit and an RBI double by Bubba Noro, who was playing his first full game of the season due to injury.
The Titans crept back to 4-3 on the strength of Chris Taylor's 2 run home run to right center field in the third. Following Taylor's home run, the Titans had men on second and third with no one out but a baserunning error allowed the Pride to escape the inning with no additional damage by turning a triple play with 2 of the outs at 3rd base.
Heritage starter John Rogerson was replaced by Tyler Lewkovich after he walked the lead off batter to start
the 4th inning. Matt Sherrill's sacrifice fly to right field tied the game in the 4th but the Pride came right back in the
top of the 5th with the first of Peters' 2 home runs to put the Pride back on top at 5-4. Peters would also end the scoring by hitting his second home run in the top of the 7th to put the game out of reach for the Titans.
Pride reliever Lewkovich got the win by shutting out the Titans for 4 innings giving up 1 hit and striking out 4. Taylor took the loss for the Titans going the distance giving up 4 hits and striking out 8.
The loss ended the Titans 5 game winning streak. They will try to get back on the winning track when they journey to Leesburg to take on the Raiders of Loudoun County Wednesday night.
