McCowat Pitches Titans To 8-1 Win

The Dominion Titans improved their record to 9-4
overall and 5-2 in the Dulles District by beating the
Briar Woods Falcons by a score of 8 to 1 Friday night
in Ashburn.

The night started auspiciously for the Titans as the
Falcons scored a run in the bottom of the first on 2
Titan errors to take a 1-0 lead.

The game developed into an excellent pitcher's duel
between the Falcons Ian Hickman and the Titans Geoff
McCowat. Briar Woods kept their 1-0 lead until the
top of the 4th when the Titans tied it up on a double
by Chris Taylor and a triple by Anthony Bartolotti.

The Titans went up 2-1 in the fifth on a base hit by
Freshman Ryan Doyle who stole second and was brought
home on an RBI single by Jonathan Knight.

The Titans broke the game open in the top of 6th when
they scored 5 runs. The inning started with Taylor
reaching on an error, a walk to Bartolotti, a fielders
choice by McCowat, an intentional walk to Ryan
Skeffington, an RBI ground out by Steven Smucker, a
walk to Bubba Noro, a 2 run single by Doyle, and a
base hit by Knight breaking open a tight game and
making the score 7-1 after 5 and 1/2 innings.

The Titans added one more run off reliever Joe
Iglesias on a home run by Taylor.

Hickman took the loss going 6 innings giving up 7 runs
on 7 hits while striking out 5. McCowat got the win
in spite of battling leg cramps all night. He got his
third win of the year, going 6 full innings, yielding
5 hits, 0 earned runs, striking out 8, and walking 1.
Skeffington came on in the 7th and retired 3 of the 4
batters he faced.

Hitting stars for the Titans were Knight with 2 hits
and 3 RBIs, Doyle with 2 hits and 2 RBIs, and Taylor
with a double and a home run and an RBI.

The Titans travel to the north side of Route 7 to take
on the Park View Patriots on Monday night. They then
host Loudoun County on Tuesday night, and have a
return engagement with the Patriots visiting Dominion
on Friday night.
