Madigan, Sanders Lead Spartans To 21-7 Win


ASHBURN, VA - Thursday night the Broad Run boys lacrosse team traveled across town to challenge fellow Dulles District competitor Briar Woods (5-3). The Spartans (9-0) were fresh off a win over the Loudoun Valley Vikings.

The initial face-off was taken by Senior midfielder Connor Forman who got the scoring started with back to back goals thanks to assists by Senior attackman Eric Madigan and Junior midfielder Tim Sanders. Sanders followed by scoring unassisted with 5:20 left in the first. Forman scored his third goal which was quickly followed by a second goal by Sanders. The first quarter ended with Broad Run up 5-0.

At the start of the second quarter the Spartans played man down for three minutes due to an illegal stick violation. During the time of the un-releasable penalty the Falcons Junior midfielder Andrew Davidson scored with an assist by Sophomore middie Alex Frantz. The Falcons scored again by Senior attack Mike Fowler assisted by Frantz. The Spartans were back to full strength but were scored on again by Fowler. Things were looking dicey for the Spartans with the Falcons only trailing by two goals. After a regrouping time out called by Spartans Head Coach Phil Truiett the Spartans were back on track closing out the half with two goals by Sanders, two goals by Sophomore attack Andy Londos, and one goal by Junior attack Kyle Ward. At the end of the first half the Spartans were leading 10-3.

The second half was equally dominant for the Spartans. The offense got started with a goal by Division I bound Madigan. Madigan followed by assisting Sophomore middie Nick Khouri. Tim Sanders scored with 8:42 left in the third. Frantz scored the Falcons first goal of the half, assisted by Junior middie Nick Carmean. Forman scored his fourth and final goal of the game, assisted by Sanders. Sanders assisted another goal to Madigan, who followed with another goal unassisted. Frantz had his second and final goal of the game. Madigan closed the third quarter scoring with 2:27 left.

The final quarter opened with a goal by Briar Wood's Davidson. Broad Run's Ward had his second and third goal of the game, and Andy Londos had his third. The game was ended with a goal by Sanders who finished with 6 goals. The final score was 21-7.

In the crease for Briar Woods was Junior Jimmi Gale who had 14 saves. The Spartans starting goalie was sophomore Colin Sack who had an impressive six saves in his Dulles District debut. The Spartans are anchored by their defense who have yet to allow a team to score double digits. They are led by Seniors Robby Buckman and Eric Zimmit and Junior Nick Brunetti.

The Falcons next game is on April 21 against the Heritage Pride. The Spartans next game is April 21 against the Loudoun County Raiders.
