LAX: Lady Raiders Snag 14-8 Win Over Falcons

LEESBURG, VA - On Thursday, April 10th, the Lady Raiders' lacrosse team took on the Briar Woods Falcons in what ended in yet another thrilling district win for Loudoun County. With the final score of 14-8, the ladies were undeniably playing at the top of their game that evening. The Raiders' defense, lead by Kaitlin Ireland, Jasmine Hughes, and Lesya Chopivsky, forced turnover after turnover through double-teams, smart checks, and anticipated interceptions, which were completed by Brooke Hewartson (4), Maria Chopivsky (3), Katie Martin (2) and Hughes (1).

Even when the Falcons managed to get a shot past the defense, Holly Tyrell, who had 10 saves, was ready and waiting in goal. As a result of hustle and pure determination, the Lady Raiders came up with a grand total of 42 ground balls, many in which were carried out by Hewartson (8), Martin (6), Hannah Arnold (4), Ireland (4), and Chopivsky (4).

After winning possession of the ball, the Raiders' transition into offense was efficient and controlled. They made quick cuts through the critical scoring area, while passing around the 12 meter until the opportunity for an assist was just right.

This strategy worked well and resulted in five assists, Molly Griffin and Martin each with two, and Hewartson with one. Scoring for the Raiders was Martin (4), Hewartson (4), Chopivsky (2), Griffin (2), Hannah Young (1) and Sydney Hewartson (1). With this victory, their district record, now 6-0, remains unshakable.
