Falcon Softballers Fall to Dominion 10-5
STERLING, VA - Despite out hitting the Dominion Titans11-10, Briar Woods couldn't overcome a lack of timely hitting and several miscues in falling to the host Titans 10-5 in Dulles District softball action Tuesday night.
The Falcons took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when freshman Kristina Karagiorgis singled and later scored on an infield single by sophomore Caitlin Blalock.
The lead was short lived, however, as Dominion struck for three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Both teams went scoreless in the second, but the Titans tacked on four more runs in the third to open a 7-1 cushion.
Briar Woods scored a single run in each of the final four innings but stranded five runners in that span.
Five Falcons had two hits each, led by senior Megan Stejbach, who doubled, tripled and scored twice.
Briar Woods couldn't overcome nine walks (including four intentional passes to Titan slugger Dee Dee Fryer), three passed balls and two errors. The Falcons left nine runners on base, while the Titans stranded eight.
