Spartan Bats Come Alive Against Dominion, 12-1
ASHBURN, VA - The Broad Run Spartans bounced back from a tough loss at Potomac Falls, with an overwhelming performance against the Dominion Titans Friday night, at Spartan Field, to take over the 2nd spot in the Dulles District, with a 12-1 victory. In quite a contrast to their previous outing, the Spartans scored 11 runs in the first two innings including home runs by Seniors Andrew Mann and Kurt Reitzel.
The Spartans totaled 13 hits on the night including the 2 home runs and 3 doubles. Trey Brocke threw the first four innings, allowing only 1 hit, while fanning 4 and walking only 1 Titan. Bubba Bernstein came in, in relief, to secure the Spartans 9th win of the season.
Taking the loss for the Titans was Junior Austin Behr.
In the 1st inning, the Titans were put down in order by Brocke. In the Spartans' half, Mann led offwith a walk and promptly stole 2nd base. SS Chris Jessop lined out and Ryan Diviney grounded out to Titan SS Chris Taylor. Spartan catcher Tommy Meier then singled in Mann giving the Spartans an early 1-0 lead. Cole Shain then scored pinch runner Billy Rocca on a double to the right field gap. Brocke reached on an error and Rietzel batted in both Shain and Brocke to give the Spartans a 4-0 lead after the 1st inning.
In the bottom half of the second inning Shane Vlasic reached on an error, and then Mann hit a 1 ball -2 strike fast ball deep over the left field fence for his first home run of the season. Diviney followed with a double to the gap and scored on a single from Shain. Brocke then singled and with Shain and Brocke on the bases, Reitzel went deep for the 2nd Spartan home run on the night pushing the score to 10-0. Reitzel had 5 RBIs on the night to lead the Spartans at the plate.
Next up for the Spartans (9-3) is a road trip to face Manassas Park Cougars on Saturday afternoon. The Titans (7-4) play host to Potomac Falls on Monday night.
