LAX: Madigan, Forman Lead Spartans To Big Win
ASHBURN, VA- The season opener for the Broad Run Spartans Boys lacrosse (1-0) team proved successful with a 16-3 win Saturday over North Stafford (1-1). The Spartans who made it to the first round of regionals last year were lead by seniors Connor Forman and Eric Madigan, who had a combined nine goals.
The Spartans drew first blood on their home turf with an unassisted goal by Madigan just one minute and forty-two seconds into the game. The North Stafford Wolverines fired back on an unassisted goal by attackman Ned Parker just one minute later. Following the goal, things looked dicey for the Spartans as they were playing minus two men due to un-releasable penalties. But Broad Run bounced back with a goal by middie Connor Forman who was assisted by junior Tim Sanders.
Madigan scored his second unassisted goal of the game followed by another assist by Sanders. The final goal of the quarter was a brother to brother combo goal scored by Austin Forman, assisted by Connor Forman. In the second quarter, the Spartans scored five unanswered goals, one of which was an impressive shot from sophomore Tyler Johnson. Johnson ended up with two goals.
Connor Forman opened the second half with explosive back to back goals, putting the Spartans up 12-1. Madigan followed by scoring his 6th and final goal of the game.
Junior goalie for the Spartans, Kenny Mcadow, had an impressive varsity debut in the crease. His consistent saves and ability to read the Wolverine offense was a major reason the Spartans had 15 unanswered goals. He was aided by defensemen Robby Buckman, Eric Zimmet, and Nick Brunetti and longstick middie Will Fields.
With a phenomenal start to the season the Spartans look to be one of the major contenders this year in the Dulles District.
