Brocke Shines; Spartans Pillage Mason 13-3
ASHBURN, VA - The Broad Run Spartans opened their home season with a dominating 13-3 victory over the George Mason Mustangs. In a contrast to the first meeting of both teams, where the Spartans won 2-1, the bats woke up and the Spartans pounded out 13 hits, which drove in 13 runs, sending the Mustangs home after 5 innings.
Broad Run's Trey Brocke earned the win, going the distance, striking out 4, and upping his season record to 2-0 on the season. At the plate the Spartans were led by Andrew Mann (3-4), Cole Shain (3-3), Trey Brocke (2-3) and Shane Vlasic (1-1). Defensively, catcher Tommy Meier continued a stellar season by throwing out the Mustangs only attempted steal. In contrast, the Spartans ran around the diamond with multiple steals by Mann, Chris Jessop, Adam Luhmann, and Patrick Murphy.
The Spartans (4-1) next host Manassas Park on Saturday at home. The Mustangs (1-4) play host to their cross town rival, Falls Church on Friday.
