Millbrook Clinches - Slams Sherando 95-47

STEPHENS CITY, VA - Tuesday night proved to be a big one for the Millbrook Pioneers boy's basketball team, as they clinched the regular season Northwestern District title, as well as a berth in the regional playoffs, with a 95-47 rout of the Sherando Warriors.

The Pioneers wasted no time putting distance between them and the Warriors, as they took a commanding 24-8 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Millbrook continued to fire from all cylinders in the second quarter, hitting key shots down low, as well as holding Sherando to 10 points, giving them a 47-19 lead at the half.

The Pioneers went on cruise control for the second half, as their offense continued to score, while their defense shut down a less than impressive Warrior offense. The Pioneers put the exclamation points on their victory, early in the fourth quarter, when junior guard, Erick Green, stole the ball, flew down the court, and put the ball through the rim with a thunderous slam dunk, bringing the traveling Millbrook faithful to their feet, and with booming applause. On the very next possession, Green again stole the ball, this time opting for the easy lay-up. But the ball rolled off the front rim. However, and not to be outdone, Levon Williams was the man-on-the-spot for his teammate, and slammed home the put-back, and the door on the night on the Warriors.

The win for the Pioneers moves their record to 19-1 overall, and 12-0 in the district. Sherando drops to 8-12, and 5-7, respectfully. Millbrook now clinches their place in the regional playoffs, as well as a number one seed in the district tournament next week.

Next up for both teams... Sherando ventures into Wincherster to try and rebound against the Handley Judges on Thursday. Millbrook travels to Brentsville, to do battle with the Tigers, on Friday.
