Kain Drills GW Shot, Raiders Win 48-47

SOUTH RIDING, VA - March Madness was supposed to wait until March, but it came a week early on Saturday night as the Loudoun County Lady Raiders pulled out one of the most unbelievable victories seen in recent years to win the Dulles District Tournament Title 48-47.
The Freedom Eagles outplayed the top ranked Raiders in many ways for most of the night, but when it mattered most, County would not be denied. Freedom led 47-46 with 3 seconds left, but Loudoun County had one last chance to take a game winning shot. Raider head coach Kevin Reed decided to put the ball in his star shooter's hands in Sammy Akers, but Freedom anticipated the in-bounds play and Sandra Porter swatted the Akers shot away. Just as the Eagle fans started to cheer, Loudoun County's Alissa Kain snagged the blocked the shot and threw up a prayer of a shot of her own. The ball bounced high off the backboard and then after what seemed like a 10 second pause........Swish! The Raider nation stormed the court and County celebrated another District Championship in one of the great games of the season.
Loudoun County will host the second round of the Regional playoffs on Thursday, and Freedom will travel on Tuesday in 1st round action.

Game Notes:
Loudoun County's Kevin Reed had a hard time deciding which play to run out of the timeout with 3 seconds left in the game. He ultimately decided to put the ball in the Dulles District's player of the year (Akers). Akers finished with 11 points but it was Alissa Kain who saved the day for County with one of the best clutch shots we've ever seen.
