4th Quarter Run Seals Victory for Lady Spartans
ASHBURN, VA - Friday night marked yet another renewal of one of the hottest rivalries in the Dulles District, as the Lady Spartans of Broad Run played host to the Lady Patriots of Park View. This would be the 2nd time these two teams have played this season. The first resulting in a Spartan victory, and on Friday, the Spartans completed the season sweep with yet another victory over an impressive, yet free throw troubled, Patriot squad.
The first half was a see-saw battle between the 2 teams. Behind the play of Alexis Campbell, the Spartans led 13-10 after the first quarter. The second quarter was a different story however, as the Patriots took charge. Megan Barnes' seven points in the quarter helped the Patriots attain a 24-21 halftime lead.
The second half started with both teams exchanging blows. The Spartan's Morgan Roehling's 6 points helped the Spartans cut the lead to 1 at the end of the 3rd quarter, 33-32. The fourth quarter brought on a Spartan squad with a second breath of life, as stellar free throw shooting, and tight defense, helped lead the Spartans to a 49-42 victory over the Patriots, thus sealing a season sweep of their district rival.
"Our defense in the second half, along with hitting key free throws at the end, is what led us to a win tonight," said Broad Run head coach Mike O'Hara after the game.
With the win, the Spartans improve to 11-8 overall, 8-4 in district play. As for the Patriots, they fall 11-7 overall, and 6-5 in the Dulles District. Both teams are back in action Tuesday night, with the Lady Spartans traveling to Potomac Falls, while the Patriots play hostess to the Falcons from Briar Woods. Both games are scheduled for 7:30 pm.
