The 2007 All Gameday Secondary.......
Chris Jessop - Broad Run
6'0, 190lbs.....Junior
One of the most versatile players on the Broad Run 10-1 team, Jessop's value cannot be underestimated. The talented junior took over the reigns as being the shut down corner for the Spartans in addition to playing several snaps a game on offense at quarterback. Jessop finished the season with a team leading 4 interceptions. Jessop added 31 total tackles and also registered an impressive 11 pass break ups during the season. The Spartans defense was helped tremendously with Jessop's ability to take out the best receiver on the field for the opposing team. His biggest play on defense may have come against Park View to end the regular season when he intercepted Park View to set his offense up with a scoring drive in the second half. The Spartans eventually won the game and finished as Dulles District champions with a perfect 10-0 record......
Devin Barber - Briar Woods
5'9, 180lbs......Senior
Devin Barber's greatest talent was clearly showcased this year on defense, where he continually shut down the best receivers in the Dulles District. Barber is an explosive athlete who never comes off the football field, playing offense, defense, and special teams. The speedy senior snagged 2 interceptions in his senior season and returned one of them for a touchdown. Barber finished with 32 total tackles and 8 passes broken up. His consistent play will be hard to replace next season for the Falcons. Barber was instrumental in helping Briar Woods emerge as a title contender in just their 3rd year of existence......
Josh Jones - Park View
5'10, 175lbs......Junior
As the 2007 season progressed, junior Josh Jones started to make a name for himself as a big play cornerback for the Park View Patriots. Jones had the game of his life against Heritage, recording 3 interceptions and 132 yards on those interception returns. Jones became a steady player who shined when the game was on the line, such as week 7 against Potomac Falls. With the Panthers driving in the final minutes, Jones dove for an errant pass and hauled it in to help Park View squeak out a close win. Jones finished with 6 interceptions, 2 fumble recoveries, and recorded 43 total tackles from his cornerback position......
Victor Williams - Dominion
6'1, 192lbs.......Senior
The most feared hitter in the Dulles District was Dominion's Victor Williams. Williams led all tacklers for the Titans with 111 and 74 of them were solo. Williams also disrupted opposing offenses in the passing game with 1 interception and 3 fumble recoveries. His tough, hard nosed style of play set the tone for the Dominion defense week in and week out. Williams is considered a solid college football prospect and his playing career should continue next fall for some lucky program.....
Darryl Hamilton, Centreville
5-foot-11, 185 lbs......Senior
If you want to see true athleticism on the football field, watch Centreville's Darryl Hamilton. No other player has the combination of agility, strength, speed, and football prowess. Hamilton is every bit the complete package athletically, but his refined football skills have made him one of the best cornerbacks to come around this area in a while. His ability to physically lock down on a player one-on-one is second to none. Hamilton has the tools to play at the next level with his ability to break on the ball once it is in the air. His play in 2007 helped Centreville hold their opponents to an average of just 10 points per game.
Tucker Karl, Westfield
5-foot-9 175 lbs........Senior
From the stands, it's hard to miss Westfield's Tucker Karl. Always flying to the ball and making plays in the secondary, Karl elevated his status to being a top-flight safety in the area. His tremendous knowledge of the game and physical style of play directly translated into Karl being one of the best in the business at breaking up plays. Karl finished his senior season with 57 tackles, 2 interceptions, 3 fumble recoveries, and 8 pass break ups. Karl was a 3 year starter for Westfield and helped the Bulldogs win 26 of their last 27 games with his steady play at safety.......
Jeron Gouveia, Stone Bridge
6-foot-2, 190 lbs........Senior
One of the few 3-time All Gameday players in the history of the team, Stone Bridge's Jeron Gouveia saved his best for his final season. Gouveia was once again one of the best defensive players in the state, recording 88 tackles, 7 interceptions, 2 caused fumbles, and 7 pass knockdowns. Gouveia also stepped up big on offense for Stone Bridge, scoring 22 touchdowns at running back and receiver. His greatest attribute may be his leadership, and Stone Bridge will be grasping to find a way to replace his presence on and off the field in 2008. Since becoming a starter as a sophomore, Gouveia led Stone Bridge to an incredible 38-4 record, two regional championships, 3 straight district championships, and the school's first ever state championship. Gouveia will continue his playing career next fall for the Virginia Tech Hokies......
Corey Lillard, Liberty
5-foot-11, 190 lbs......Junior
Liberty's Corey Lillard meant everything to his 7-3 Eagles squad in 2007. Lillard played his best football on the defensive side of the ball, leading the way for a strong finish in the Cedar Run District in Liberty's first year at the Group AAA level. Lillard finished with 67 tackles, 2 sacks, 4 Passes broken up, 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery. Lillard's big play potential also showed up on offense as he doubled as a receiver and running back for head coach Tommy Buzzo. His physical style of play and big frame are a big reason why Lillard has received scholarship offers from UVA, North Carolina, and N.C. State........
