The 2007 All Gameday Quarterbacks.......
THE 2007 GROUP AAA QUARTERBACKS........
Mike Glennon, Westfield
6-foot-6, 195 lbs......Senior
Touted as one of the nation's best pro-style quarterbacks, Mike Glennon proved the hype true in 2007, leading his team to a VHSL record 15-0 season, and the Division 6 state championship. Glennon proved clutch in every close game this past fall, throwing for 2,557 yards on 269 attempts and a career best 32 touchdowns. Glennon completed 64% of his passes and also added 6 rushing touchdowns with his improved running skills. Glennon finished his career with a 26-1 record as a starter and helped lead the Bulldogs to their second state championship in the last 5 years. Glennon is a two time All Gameday selection and will continue playing next fall at N.C. State.......
Patrick Thompson, Stone Bridge
6'2, 205lbs......Junior
One of the greatest stories of the 2007 season involved Stone Bridge's Patrick Thompson. Thompson took over at quarterback for the Bulldogs after playing tight end in 2006 and proceeded to do something no quarterback in Stone Bridge history has ever done. Thompson led the Bulldogs to the Division 5 state championship and along the way, he threw for 2,337 yards and 30 touchdowns in his first season ever playing the position. Thompson added another 5 touchdowns on the ground and threw just 7 interceptions in 199 attempts. With Thompson returning in 2008, the Bulldogs will be the odds on favorite to return to the state championship game again......
Ben Barber, Edison
5-foot-11, 200 lbs......Senior
Arguably the best pure athlete in the Northern Region, Edison's Ben Barber made the transition from receiver to quarterback for his Eagles and put on a clinic on how to dominate from behind center. Barber racked up 1,321 yards passing, 1,000 yards rushing, and accounted for a team high 32 touchdowns overall. With Barber at the helm, the Eagles won the National District and made their 4th straight regional championship appearance. As a three-year starter for Edison, Barber graduated with 3,681 total yards while passing, receiving, and running the ball. Barber will play next fall for Virginia Tech.......
2007 ALL GAMEDAY GROUP AA QUARTERBACKS:
Ross Metheny - Sherando
6'3, 195lbs......Junior
Clearly the best quarterback in the region, Sherando's Ross Metheny continued his storied career by leading the Warriors to the division 4 state title game. A starter since his freshman season, Metheny took his game to another level in 2007, throwing for 24 touchdowns and 2,207 yards. Metheny completed an impressive 62.7% of his passes this season and threw just 7 interceptions on 235 attempts. Metheny continued to help his team take the next step as well, leading them to their second consecutive undefeated regular season and Northwest District championship. Metheny threw 9 touchdowns in the post-season alone before suffering a broken ankle in the state championship game. With a healthy Metheny back in 2008 for his senior season, Sherando will be considered a state championship contender.
C.J. Leizear - Park View
6'0, 185lbs.....Senior
Park View's senior quarterback C.J. Leizear put together one of the best statistical seasons in recent memory. His 29 touchdown passes, 3,133 yards passing, and 271 yards passing per game helped Park View to its 3rd consecutive post-season appearance. Leizear finished his stellar career as Park View's all time leading passer and also in the top 5 in VHSL history for passing yards in a season. Leizear's best attribute was once again his leadership as he helped the Patriots finish 10-2, and win 19 of their last 23 games. Leizear is a two time All Gameday selection at quarterback (2005)......
