Sherando's Hall Wins Coach of Year Honor

After leading his Warriors to the state championship game and a 13-1 record, the 2007 All Gameday Group AA Coach of the Year is Sherando's Bill Hall. The Warriors were arguably the best team in the Northern Virginia area at the Group AA level this season, rolling through the Northwestern District for their 2nd consecutive undefeated regular season. Sherando averaged over 34 points per game while only giving up an average of 12 points per game on defense. In 5 seasons with the Warriors, Hall has accumulated an impressive 46-12 record with 3 consecutive playoff appearances.

Throughout the 2007 campaign Hall was able to prepare his team for each and every challenge they faced. The Warriors started the season against a very tough Jefferson, WV squad and showed early-season poise in winning the ballgame 7-0. Sherando proved in week 1 they were going to be a tough match-up for anyone who faced them. Hall refused to let his team play "down" to lesser competition as the Warriors scored at least 33 points in eight of their fourteen ballgames this past season. Hall was blessed with many talented and determined seniors that simply refused to quit the entire year. Led by Markeith Brisco, Joey Christine, David Hoopengarner, Derek Crosen, Brian Barlow, A.J. Bakos, and a host of other seniors, Hall's Warriors were determined to take the next step to being one of the elite programs in the state of Virginia.

Coach Hall has shown in his short tenure that he can motivate his players to be the best they can be both on and off the field. Hall has also taken the lead in developing some of the most unique high school football traditions in the state. Before each game, the team is led onto the field by a Warrior riding a horse, much like you see at Florida St. Hall's steady hand on the program's football future has united the Stephens City community. The atmosphere at Sherando is second to none, and it is only going to get better in the years to come.

Under Hall's leadership, the Warriors showcased one of the premiere offenses in the state with tailback Markeith Brisco leading the way. Brisco scorched opposing defenses for 26 touchdowns and helped the Warrior offense dominate during the season. Hall is also a major reason for the development of quarterback Ross Metheny. Metheny already holds most of the Warrior passing records, but his intellectual grasp of the game is a credit to Hall and his coaching staff. Metheny is one of the few quarterbacks in high school football that runs much of the offensive game plan from the line of scrimmage.

Metheny put up impressive numbers with 24 touchdown passes, but his game management skills is what sets him apart from the rest. Like his predecessors, Hall has built a consistent winner, one that is always considered a favorite heading into the season. That won't change anytime soon.

The Warriors will once again be a force in the state championship race next fall as Hall returns Metheny and several key starters from this year's 13-1 team.

Hall's ability to get the most out of his kids and his program has the locals in Stephens City excited about the future, and the rest of the state very aware of the Sherando Warriors.
