Lady Spartans Handle Park View 49-42
STERLING, VA - In a tough, physical game, the Broad Run (7-5, 4-1) and Park View (7-4, 3-2) girls fought for sole position of second place in the Dulles District, in Sterling, Friday night. The Lady Spartans started the scoring fast with a quick two pointer to start the game, and never relinquished the lead.
Broad Run out rebounded the Patriots 29-24 and forced 24 key turnovers to keep the momentum in their favor for the entire game and come away with a 49-42 win. Alexis Campbell led the way for the Spartans with 20 points and 9 rebounds.
Broad Run played excellent defense by limiting Park View to only 21 points in each half, limiting the scoring of key players. The Spartans used a smothering man to man defense to control high scorer Karita Brown to just 10 points in the game. They also made sure that freshman "All World," Shenise Disney was almost a non-factor for most of the game.
The Spartans won the game with their ability to capitalize on second chances and they also made the Patriot's pay for their mistakes. Park View kept the scoring close all night long and pulled within one point of the lead late in the third quarter, but they would get no closer. Broad Run outscored Park View 10-6 in the fourth quarter and put the game away for good, and move to within one game of the top of the Dulles District.
The Lady Spartans will next travel to Sterling to play the Potomac Falls Panthers, on Monday, January 14. Game time is 7:30 pm.
