Gameday Notebook: Week 10 Northern Region

STERLING, VA - Week 9 in the Northern Region was absolutely crazy. We had ourselves four upsets that no one expected and completely shook up the entire landscape of the region. With playoffs right on the horizon, a monkey wrench was thrown into system, setting up a very interesting Week 10. But before we get into the possible scenarios and playoff match-ups, we'll break down all of Week 9 for you and what it means to the rest of the Northern Region.
UPSET CITY BABY!
With college basketball about to start, we thought it'd be appropriate to quote the ever-so entertaining Dick Vitale. Fairfax and Arlington is now officially Upset City, and some towns are in a frenzy at this point, because their playoff status completely changed. Outlined for you are the upsets that took place this past Monday.
Herndon over Robinson 7-0: The Hornets knocking off Robinson came out of nowhere. Herndon has been getting better and better as the weeks wore on, while Robinson seems to have slowed down tremendously since their beat-down of Stone Bridge in Week 2. As a result Robinson is now the eighth seed in Division Six and must get a win over Fairfax to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Centreville over Chantilly 19-6: Make that now the 12th straight time Centreville has beaten Chantilly. If there ever was a time and place to make that streak end, it was last Monday yet instead Centreville's offense finally came alive to stun Chantilly. Centreville abruptly moved from 10th in the power points to sixth where if the season ended today they would be matched up with none other than Chantilly.
Mount Vernon over Yorktown 35-6: Yorktown looked as if they were about to easily take the fourth spot in the Division Five playoffs as well as host a first-round playoff game, but that completely changed on Monday. After taking a 6-0 halftime lead, Mount Vernon uncorked 35 unanswered points to stun Yorktown and effectively taking over the fourth spot. Yorktown meanwhile slipped to the sixth spot where as luck would have it, would face bitter rival Edison.
Lee over TC Williams 13-7: We know these aren't your daddy's Titans, but this year's Titan squad has been vastly improved from in year's past. They've been giving all the top teams fits all year, so when they lost to one-win Lee, that came as quite a shock to us here at Gameday. With the win, Lee--despite having only two wins--took over the eighth and final spot in the Division Five playoffs and have jumped into the playoff frenzy.
CURSED?
Like we mentioned earlier, the Centreville upset over Chantilly was huge, but here's the bigger question: why does Chantilly continuously lose to Centreville? Last year's Centreville team upset Chantilly last year too when they had nothing to play for but pride and now this year when Centreville looks down and out, they resuscitate their season with a win. We know it's a rivalry where anything can happen, but it's almost like it is the Wildcats' destiny to beat the Chargers every year. So we're starting the theory that Chantilly is cursed against Centreville. For whatever reason, they can't beat Centreville and the only explainable way is a curse. You heard it from me, Derek LeComte, first and no I am not crazy.
TALE OF TWO CITIES
Out in Burke where both Lake Braddock and Robinson fight over the same real estate, we can't help but wonder at the different directions these two programs have taken since the start of the season. In the first game of the year, Robinson beat Lake Braddock and then thumped Stone Bridge the week thereafter. But since then, it's been all downhill for Robinson as they just lost to a Herndon team that is in the process of rebuilding. Lake Braddock meanwhile has taken off since their loss to Robinson, winning their past 7 of 8.
PLAYOFFS AT A GLANCE:
To spell it all out a bit easier for you at home, here are the updated power points. Find out where your team stands and who they're facing on Week 10. After last week, it's crazy to think that any win is automatic, so we're not even going to try and predict where each team will finish.
