Brisco Gives The Warriors Ultimate Balance....

STEPHENS CITY, VA - On a cold Friday night in Stephens City, VA, the Sherando Warriors (12-0) dominated the Park View Patriots (10-2) in a 38-0 region title victory. The Warriors were able to cruise their way to a shut out in large part because of a stellar performance by senior Markeith Brisco. Brisco aided the Warriors with both a fantastic game on offense at running back, and on defense at defensive back.

On offense, Brisco had what might rank as one of the best games of his career with 20 rushes for 234 yards and three touchdowns. Brisco's running ability was so dominate that it opened up huge opportunities for the rest of the offense as well. Junior quarterback Ross Metheny completed 7 of 11 passes for 89 yards and threw a touchdown pass to Derek Crosen. Brisco also helped put the Warriors in position to make a big 29 yard field goal to end the first quarter.

While he was very effective on the offensive side of the ball, Brisco also established an intimidating presence on defense as well. He picked off Park View quarterback C.J. Leizear three times to help keep the Patriots scoreless in the game. Sherando as a team had six interceptions in the game, which led to the team's fifth shutout in 12 games. Sherando will travel to play Powhatan next Saturday.....

Brisco's emergence as Sherando's main ball carrier on offense is a good story. He played behind teammate David Hoopengarner last year but was seldom used in a key role. Hoopengarner rushed for over 1,000 yards as a junior, and the Warriors were very productive on offense. However, Brisco's play this season has definitely increased Sherando's chances of winning the state championship. He provides the Warriors with a big play threat that can take any handoff or screen pass to the house on any given play.

Brisco's consistency this season has also helped the passing game and quarterback Ross Metheny. The Warriors are more balanced than a year ago, and opposing teams have to choose which part of the offense they want to try to take away.

Park View chose to not allow Metheny to beat them with his arm, and Brisco destroyed them. A week earlier James Wood took Brisco out of the game, and Metheny ended their season with the help of receiver Derek Crosen.

As Sherando prepares for Powhatan in the State Semi Final game, it is a sure bet that the game plan will include a healthy dose of Brisco, who now has 23 touchdowns on his resume in his senior season.
