Westfield Washes Out Herndon 34-0
(Westfield Recap Written By Jessica Lloyd)
CHANTILLY, VA - When the Herndon and Westfield captains met at midfield for the opening coin toss on the rain soaked Friday night at Bulldog Stadium, the Bulldog's 42 seniors lined up right behind their captains, as part of the honors on this Senior Night. The night proved to be a special outcome, as every point gained for the Bulldogs came from a senior player. Westfield defended their undefeated record, beating the Herndon Hornets 34-0 , in a game that was called after 3 quarters due to the heavy rains.
Both teams took to a slow start in the beginning, but Westfield finally scored on a touchdown run by Johnny Pickett. Dave Kruchko then scored his first of two touchdowns of the night, on a pass from Mike Glennon.
The Bulldog defense made their presence known, too, with an interception by Kyle Goffredo, who then ran the theft in for a touchdown. At half time, the Bulldogs led 27-0.
Only a few plays after the opening kickoff of the second half, Steven Tabot made the big play of the night with a 64-yard touchdown run into the end zone. The luck of beautiful weather couldn't hold out for the entire night. Rain came pouring down at the end of the 3rd quarter, forcing the officials to call a 30-minute rain delay with 17 seconds left, sending parents, fans, and both teams running for cover. After the storm passed, the officials deemed the field unplayable, ending the game at 34-0.
