Urrutia Scores Twice as Chargers Pound Rebels

The Chantilly Chargers traveled to Fairfax High School and stormed the Rebels by the score 42-7 on Oct. 19, improving to 7-1 on the season.

The Charger's six touchdowns came from five different players, including two from senior running back Bugsy Urrutia.

Senior linebacker and running back Mike Quigg rushed for the Charger's first touchdown in the first quarter. The drive started with a fierce 43 yard dart by junior running back Torrian Pace off a shuffle pass from senior quarterback Austin Decker.

"We were able to play well," coach Mike Lalli said. "We made some big plays."

Senior tight end Jacob Barron followed up Quigg's touchdown with one of his own. On fourth-and-18 with 3:21 left in the first quarter he caught a pass from Decker that put the Chargers up 14-0.

Senior running back Antonio Cross said the fact that five different Chargers were able score gives the team more offensive options and a more balanced offense.

"It just gives us more choices," Cross said. "We can depend on other guys to score, not just our key players."

Cross rushed into the end zone from three yards out early in the second quarter, giving the Chargers a 21-0 lead.

Although the Chargers scored mainly on quick explosive plays, Lalli said it would help the team to be more consistent on the drives without that one big play.

"Everything else was kind of big play oriented, which is great, and it's exciting, but it's nice to have the consistent drives without the penalties," Lalli said.

In the final minute of the first half Pace burst out for a 67 yard run. It set up a two yard touchdown from Decker on a keeper with 14.3 seconds left.

The Chargers went into halftime with a comfortable 28-0 lead but came out in the second half with just as much strength and concentration.

"I was real pleased with the way we came out and had a good intensity level," Lalli said.

Junior lineman Max Jeffery, who suffered a knee injury against Washington and Lee, recovered a fumble three-and-a-half minutes into the third quarter. Urrutia took advantage of the turnover and scored from 18 yards out less than a minute later.

In the fourth quarter the rain started pouring down but it didn't stop the Chargers from continuing their offensive dominance of the Rebels.

The only score of the fourth quarter came on a 90 yard run by Urrutia. The Rebel's only score was in the third quarter on a 15 yard run.
