Tabot, Pickett Run Through Rebels

CHANTILLY, VA - With the excitement and chaos of Homecoming night at Westfield Friday night, head Coach Tom Verbanic emphasized the responsibility and pride expected from the boys on a perfect night. He agreed that the festivities were important and traditional, but there was still a game to play and a title run to maintain. The message was heard loud and clear, as the Bulldogs defeated the Fairfax Rebels 45-7, almost completing the shutout.

The game started rough for the home team, as Sr. QB Mike Glennon threw an interception near the Rebel end zone in the opening minutes of the game. Fairfax managed to move the ball back down the field, which hyped up Westfield's defensive line. Their extra energy paid off as Tucker Karl made an impressive interception. Steven Tabot put the Bulldogs on the board first with an option play late in the first quarter, scoring his first of his four touchdowns on the night, the second of which came only a few minutes later.

Westfield completed only a field goal in the next few drives, after almost turning the ball over yet again in the Rebel end zone. One of the highlight plays of the game came late in the 2nd quarter, not surprisingly from Westfield's Johnny Pickett, as he and Glennon combined on an 89 yard touchdown catch-and-run from deep in Westfield's half of the field.

The Bulldogs stretched their lead with another touchdown run from Tabot, then again on a rush from Pickett, bringing the score to 38-0 at the half. Once the teams were back on the field, Tabot sealed his night with one last touchdown early in the half. The Bulldog defense played a strong game the entire night, but Fairfax managed to fight back in the 4th quarter, tallying their lone touchdown on RB Peter Miller's run.

Westfield stays home for a 2nd week, hosting the Herndon Hornets. Fairfax returns home for their final home stand of the season, and Senior Night, hosting the red hot Chantilly chargers. Both games are Friday night at 7:30 pm.
