Spartans Stay Perfect, Beat Raiders 27-9...

ASHBURN, VA - In a game that pitted the 6 - 0 Spartans against the 0 - 6 Raiders, no one could have faulted the Raiders if the game ended in a blowout. The Raiders however, were not awed by the Spartans record, and gave the Spartans 3 quarters of smash-mouth football. In the end the Spartans prevailed on the score board 27- 9, but the Raiders came away with a bright vision of what the future holds for their team.

On the first series of the game, the Spartans were forced to a quick three and out behind an aggressive Raider defense. The Raiders, taking over on their own 47 yard line, used a combination of quick passes and hard running from Andrew Walczak and Adam Yesuf to keep the Spartan defense off balance. On a 2nd and 9 from the Broad Run 31, Senior QB Kelly Reimers found Jack Lewis in the end zone for an early TD, putting the Raiders up 6-0.

On the ensuing possession, Broad Run's Breon Earl broke loose on a 25 yard scamper down to the Raider 7 yard line. Two plays later, Billy Rocca powered in to tie the game at 6-6. Broad Run got on the scoreboard again right before the half when quarterback Cole Shain scrambled around a charging Raider defense for a touchdown. A Graham Allen PAT put the Spartans up at half time 13-6.

On the opening kickoff of the 2nd half, the Raiders Lewis returned the ball 32 yards to the Raider 47 yard line. Loudoun County drove the ball with precision down to the Spartan 9-yard line, but had to settle for a field goal from Troy Krepich. After a Spartan turnover on the next drive, the Raiders looked like they were in position to take the lead. However, the Broad Run defense held their ground and forced Loudoun County to punt.

Broad Run's Breon Earl paced the next Spartan drive with runs of 21, 16, and 14 yards. The Spartans went 88 yards in under 3 minutes and Broad Run increased their lead 20-9.

The Raiders were only able to muster one first down the remainder of the game as the Spartan defense intercepted two Reimer passes, (Chris Jessop and Billy Rocca), with Rocca returning his pick to the Raider's one yard line. Jessop then took a quarterback sneak into the end zone to secure a 27-9 win on homecoming Saturday.

With the win, Broad Run improved to 7-0 and remains tied for first place in the Dulles District standings with Park View. Loudoun County fell to 0-7, but the Raiders are on the rise as a team and program under first year head coach Todd Hill.
