Q&A With Westfield's Mike Glennon

CHANTILLY, VA - With the big match-up between Westfield and Oakton just hours away, we had a chance to catch up with returning All Gameday quarterback Mike Glennon from Westfield High School. Glennon expressed his excitement with the way the Bulldogs have progressed this season, and some insight into the upcoming game against the Cougars....

MIKE ARROWSMITH: Tell me about your basic feelings on the offense as a whole this season?

GLENNON: I think that all around we're a very balanced offense. We can run when we need to and we can throw when we need to. Our offensive line has done outstanding this year. I think I've been sacked maybe 3 times in 8 games so far, so when you have a good line and good athletes around you, the offense is usually going to be pretty successful.

GAMEDAY: How do you feel about the upcoming game against Oakton and what do you make of their defense?

GLENNON: I think out of every team in the region, Oakton has been the most improved from day 1. In the beginning of the year I saw them and I wasn't as impressed, but seeing their last two games on film they have a very solid defense. Jack Tyler is one of the best linebackers around and Oakton defenses are always going to be physical.

GAMEDAY: How have your coaches influenced your productivity this season?

GLENNON: Our coaching staff is the best in the state. I think our coaches could take an 0-10 team into an 10-0 team, that is my honest opinion about our coaches because week in and week out we seem to have the better gameplan. Coach Verbanic has been doing this for a long time and I don't think there is any coach in the state that will out coach him, or the rest of the staff.

GAMEDAY: You and your recievers have been together since the beggining of high school. How has that impacted this season?

GLENNON: I think that we have built chemistry since our freshman year at Westfield. We've always worked hard in the offseason together, and I think our hard work is paying off. Between the lineman and the recievers, they make my job pretty easy. The problem with having three very good recievers is that some try to double Johnny, but if teams start to double Johnny they aren't going to be able to stop David and Randy. So the recievers know that some games it may be their time and other games someone else. They are all very unselfish and have been doing great so far this year.

GAMEDAY: Obviously the passing game has been outstanding this season, but how has the duel running attack of Steven Talbot and Brian Kennedy impacted the team?

GLENNON: They have been both playing very well. Talking about unselfish, both of these guys do not care who gets more touches and who gets the touchdowns, they just want to do whats best for the team. I think Steven does all the dirty work for us, and then Brian comes in and provides a spark.

GAMEDAY: With only two games left in the season how do you feel about Westfield's chances in the playoffs?

GLENNON: I'm pretty sure we've already clinched at least one home game in the playoffs. Our first goal as a team is always to make the playoffs. Once the playoffs start its a whole new season. There are no longer any easy games, and being Westfield teams are going to be wanting to be the team to knock us out of it.
