Metheny Tosses 4 TD Passes in the Rain to Win

NOKESVILLE, VA--Friday night saw many changes to the weekly football schedule as games were moved to either Saturday or Monday. The game between the Sherando Warriors (9-0 / 6-0) and the Brentsville Tigers (3-5 / 2-3) was not moved and continued in the rain. The field, which was in good shape before the game, looked like a mud pit by the time Sherando walked off with the 34-14 victory over the Tigers.

Sherando started the scoring only 2 minutes into the game when Ross Metheny hooked up with Brain Barlow for a 57 yard touchdown pass. Metheny completed 4 of 7 passes for just under 100 yards in the 1st half, connecting with Derek Dehaney twice for touchdowns (6 and 9 yards) in the half. Metheny was very accurate throughout the game and the incomplete passes on the night were attributable to the adverse conditions, as Metheny was able to put the ball where he needed to each and every time the coaching staff asked him to throw the football.

The 2nd half started with a 4 play 30-yard drive that featured a steady dose of David Hoopengarner. The senior capped off the short drive from 1 yard away with his only rushing touchdown of the ballgame. Hoopengarner ended up with over 120 yards on the ground Friday night. Markeith Brisco did not see any action Friday night against the Tigers, as the Warriors leaned on David Hoopengarner to lead the team's rushing attack.

Brentsville was able to get on the board with 4:24 to go in the 3rd quarter on the 1 yard plunge by Justin Donnelley, who finished the night unofficially with 92 yards rushing. The two teams traded scores in the 4th quarter of the game as Metheny again found Dehaney for a 6 yard touchdown pass. The Tigers, a team that never quits, scored with only :33 left to play as junior quarterback PJ Borko found Vinny DeFranks for a 12 yard touchdown pass.

The 14 points scored by the Tigers ties the season-high for points against the Sherando Warriors. Brentsville will travel to play the Central Falcons next week. Sherando will face off with Millbrook for the Northwestern District title on the line next Friday night at Arrowhead Stadium in Stephens City. The game can be heard on The Gameday Radio Network on www.GamedayMagazine.com Live Coverage of the Warriors will begin at 6:45pm.
