Gameday Notebook - Week 7 (Loudoun)

Gameday Rewind...
It was business as usual for the top teams in Loudoun County on Friday, as the undefeated continued to roll over their opponents. Two of which seemed to have it easy, while one relied on late game heroics. The latter saw the Broad Run Spartans struggle at home against a Heritage Pride team that seems to get stronger every week. With the score tied with less than 2 minutes left in the game, Jr. FB Kenny McAdow plowed into the end zone from 2 yards out to seal the 17-10 victory for the Spartans, and to keep their undefeated streak in tact. In the "easier" games on the night, the Park View Patriots handled their business deftly, dispatching the Freedom Eagles, at home, 35-7. The game was a bit sloppy at times, however, as coach Andy Hill pulled out the old "School Yard Playbook," inputting several gadget plays (in what this reporter can only assume was to keep his team's focus in tact, and to liven up the Patriot's psyche in an anticipated mismatch), that didn't quite go as planned at times.
Nonetheless, the Patriots rolled over the Eagles, behind another solid passing performance by Sr. CJ Leizear (19-30-289, 2 TD's), and Soph. Receiver Tommy Sedeski's 9-134, and 1 TD grab. The Eagles did have a couple shining moments on the night. They held Park View scoreless after 1 quarter, and after the Patriot's 1st score in the night, Jeff Pugh would take the ensuing kick-off 92 yards for the touchdown, and lone score on their night. Final: Park View 35, Freedom 7.
The Stone Bridge Bulldogs, although not undefeated on the season, improved their spotless Liberty District record to 3-0, over the greatly outmatched South Lakes Seahawks, 54-12. The Bulldogs combined for 341 yards on the ground, led by Matt Irwin's 4 carries for 104 yards, including a 44 yard TD run. In Cedar Run action, the Loudoun Valley Vikings went up against an undefeated Fauquier team, and are still searching for that 1st District win, falling to the Falcons 33-14.
Falcons Rebound Over Titans...
The Briar Woods Falcons recovered nicely, after their tough defeat at the hands of the Spartans last week, traveling to Sterling to play the Dominion Titans. It was all Alex Munro and the Falcons in this contest, as they would score the game's first 2 touchdowns, and would never look back. Munro finished the night with 180 yards, on 18-24 passing, and 3 TD's. Tim King would be the recipient of 7 of those passes, and 2 TD's. The defense also played large in the game, recovering 3 Titan fumbles, and holding freshman sensation Deandre Reaves to only 41 yards on 21 carries. The first team to hold Reaves to under 100 yards this season. Titan QB Geoff McCowat is starting to heat up for Dominion, as he threw for 93 yards, and 2 TD's late in the game. It also didn't help the Titans with All-Gameday defensive back candidate Todd Lancaster on the sidelines with a separated shoulder. One can only speculate the impact, however....
"The Meek Shall Inherit The Earth..."...
Or so the saying goes. In this case, we'll just limit that to the Dulles District. The Loudoun County Raiders, while in defeat at the hands of the Potomac Falls Panthers, made believers out of everyone in attendance at Panther Stadium, that this Raiders team will be a tough team to beat very soon. They continue to play with fire, and heart, and improve every week. Such was the case on this night. Although they never led, or were tied, in the game, the Raiders drew to within 3 of the Panthers late, and were driving to tie, or take the lead, with just over 2 minutes to play. But a fumble would end the threat, and Potomac Falls would prevail, 23-20

Chick-Fil-A Players Of The Week
Tommy Sedeski - Soph. WR Park View
Sedeski was just one of many targets for Patriot QB CJ Leizear, but he was the most prolific, hauling in 9 passes for 134 yards, and 1 TD. He was also a defensive force on the night, seeming to be everywhere the ball was.
Matt Irwin - Sr. WR, Stone Bridge
Irwin totaled 223 all purpose yards and a TD catch for the Bulldogs, helping his team to the lopsided 54-12 victory.
The Picks-Of-The-Week
In last week's 4 way match-up, Park View head football coach Andy Hill proved he's just as smart as the Gameday "A" Team, as we all got 10 out of 15 correct. Bornarth cheated by looking at my picks before submitting his own choices, proving that he does rely on "reliable sources" for all his information!
Every week, the Gameday Crew of Andy Hayes, Bruce Bornarth, and Tom Whipple go head-to-head against each other, and a weekly invited guest prognosticator, and we will pick apart the teams and schedules for high school, college, and the pro's, and come up with the Picks of The Week presented by GamedayMagazine.com. This week's challenger is Sr. Mike Stancik, baseball and football standout for the Stone Bridge Bulldogs. See how he fares against the "experts." This week's Picks from the guys are.....

* Do you think you can outdo the Gameday "A" Team? Send an email to Gamedaymagazine@AOL.com, and tell us you want to give it a shot! We will pick one new guest "expert" each week.
